or did you just skip toddler beds?

I was talking to my sister today & she said they just skipped the toddler bed & went straight to a twin size when my nephew was about 2 1/2, which got me to thinking. But then my other sister says no, don't get a twin sized bed until they're potty trained b/c the mattress is more expensive if you have to replace it. Don't they make covers anymore? I'd have to see some in person, I guess b/c I don't know if 2 twin beds would fit in their room.

We skipped toddler as we didn't want the cost or to bother converting the cribs. We also had our little Jon come along and NEEDED a crib so moved the boys when they were 2. They LOVEd their new "big beds" and we never had an issue and I was totally gearing up for a battle. I did almost cry at the sight of them in their big beds though as it made them look super tiny. We opted for bunk beds and just have them de-bunked until they get a little older as their room is small too. I have room for their beds and one dresser and the night stand is shoved in the corner. Good Luck! I don't think it's a bad idea to go right to twins and they do sell mattress covers so I wouldn't worry about that at all. Take care, Jen

In my immediate circle of family and friends, everyone went right to twin sized beds, so that's what we're going to be doing also. My SIL used to have plastic mattress pads that definitely protected against leaks.

It was different for each of the kids! :) With Joel I moved him to a toddler bed because he was climbing out of his crib by 10 months. He was in a toddler bed before his 1st bday but someone gave us a brand new twin bed when he was about 18 months old and we put him in. With the twins they started to climb out at around 17 months or so and I put their crib matresses on the floor for about 8 weeks and then we bought twin beds. With Joy we just moved her out of her crib a few weeks ago and she went straight into a twin bed.

Honestly, unless your cribs convert into toddler beds, I wouldn't spend the money. I would just push the bed against the wall and put a rail on the other side. It works just fine. They will only use the toddler beds for such a short period of time and then you will have something else to get rid of! :) The twin beds they will use for a long time. Mine will sleep in them until they leave the house. :)

We went right to a full size bed (converted the crib) and she loves having a big girl bed.

We skipped the toddler bed also and my DD went into a double bed. She was 2 1/2 when we made the transfer. They do make waterproof mattress pads so there is no reason for it to be ruined if your child isn't nightime potty trained.

we skipped the toddler bed w/ Berkley but not w/ the twins.
There's definitely pads or covers for kids still potty training, don't let that be a factor.

Because the twins room is so small they are in toddler beds but if this move goes thru, they're moving to twin beds. They do still make wet proof mattress covers (which we'll get) also known as allergy covers. My older son still has one because of his extreme allergies.

With my now 5 year old DD: at age 2 years 9 months, she went from crib to twin bed. We were moving so I just got her new bedroom suite at that point. We put it against the wall with a rail on the other side and she did great. She was not potty trained and we got a waterproof zip-around mattress protector at Target.

It worked fine. I did not transition her to sleep in panties until she was REALLY ready.

I may do the same with the twins since we are planning to move in a year or so.

Ditto its different for all kids. My dd was small and fit well into her toddler bed I got free from a friend from 2.5 until almost 4. But the boys are much bigger and the toddler beds only worked for about 6-8 months (but I got them cheap on craiglist and used their crib mattresses so it was not a huge cost). We just moved them to twin beds a few days ago. I put them together so it looks like a king bed and bed rails on both sides. They love it! And I sold the toddler beds on craigslist for as much as I paid for them. So its almost like I used them for FREE. HA.

My oldest DD never had a toddler bed. We put a mattress on the floor for her for about 4 months and then bought her a full size bed. We will do the mattress on the floor for a bit too with the twins and then put them in a twin bed, no toddler beds here, I think they are a waste of money.

We will be skipping the toddler bed and go straight to the twins bed because we already have the mattress that was in one of the guest room. But will be buying the railing once they start climbing out of their crib.

I would say skip the toddler beds, I think we had them for about six months I found a waste of money.

Yes u can get waterproof covers for the twin mattresses. If u are short on room, how about putting the box spring and mattress on the floor (might be safter in the beginning) and then u don't have the extra space of a bed frame.

We skipped the toddler beds, but we haven't gotten into twins yet...we just removed the drop-down side from their cribs so they are basically like toddler beds. They look like this- they don't normally share beds but this night was different: ;)
