    Okay Ladies,
Here is the deal. My dr. has recommended that I take off work at 28 weeks (I have 11 weeks to go). I am still healthy and active. However, I am slowing down a little more everyday. I work 4 12 hour days. My thoughts are:

Did you take off work and not go on bedrest?
Did you feel that you delievered later because you left work?

Any advice that you could share would be very much appreciated.

I guess it depends on your situation. For me, I worked right up until the day I delivered but I have a desk job. Plus, I really couldn't afford to not work. I had 3 months of paid leave but I didn't want to use that until they got here. If I didn't have a desk job there's no way I would have made it working as long as I did. Good luck whatever you decide!!

I left work at 26 weeks. At that point I was feeling pretty miserable though. I definitely contribute NOT being on bedrest and making it this far (I'll be 36 weeks in 2 days) to being off work, reducing my stress level, and being able to lay down most of the day. I still go "shopping" with DH a couple times a week or we go to lunch but the majority of the time I am resting on the couch with my swollen feet up. ;) Some days I think maybe I could have gone longer at work - BUT would I be where I am now? Would I be doing this good? I am doubtful. I went into PTL with my son at 30 weeks so I am just amazed I'm doing this good with two babies. Are you on your feet a lot? If so, then I would definitely consider taking off work at that point. If you are still feeling pretty good then maybe you can just reduce your schedule?

I had a desk job & was working 4 Ten hour shifts. I ended up stopping work at 33 weeks & wish that I would have stopped around 30 weeks.
My commute was an hour each way & driving got to be pretty uncomfortable & my tummy didn't have any room!!
I think that my bedrest (modified) definitely helped keep my girls in until their 37.5 week scheduled c-section.
If you can afford it or will still get paid I say do it! :good:

I left work at the start of my second tri. It was personal for me. I was just getting tired, I wanted to stay home with the other kids, I knew bed rest was coming and I wanted to get ready. I still feel it was the right decision for me. All the extra work it takes to cary twins, Im glad I stayed home.

Do I think it has made a difference in the pregnancy itself? I don't know. Work was stressful and the hrs were hard. I do think it has made a difference in my mental health through all of this ;) , not having to worry about going anywhere if I felt sick or to tired. Things like that.

If my boss was half way decent of a person I might have stayed longer. Had I been able to rearrange some hrs or come with a different plan life there would have been easier. Would working less hrs help you? How helpful are the people and company you work for? Remember, you can always take it one week at a time and just keep seeing how you feel.

i know for me i was put on disability at 24 weeks due to having my daughter at 36 weeks and my job was the type that i was on my feet for 9 hours a day/ 5 days a week. I was not on bedrest the whole time , but i did get to send my daughter to daycare for 3 days a week a was able to rest those days. I definitely think it helped me keep the babies in longer and i started having pre term contract. around 29 weeks. If you are financially able to go off work than i say go for it.

I also feel it depends on your situation more so financially. I wanted to work till 36 weeks but my last day was Fridau at 34.2 weeks. My dr. wasnt comfortable allowing me to keep going although NOTHING was wrong and my job is not stressful. My disability pay is not going to be very much so it is a problem for me-
My cervix is still over 3 and my babies are big and healthy so working has done nothing negative for me. I worked at a preschool with 2 yr olds :)

If your disability pay is good and its not an issue for your family then I say yes, go off work. Those are long shifts. If I could have afforded it i wouldnt have cared either way. Although it did help the time pass to work and I felt really good all day not slugging around and have only gained about 30 lbs-all belly. So its been a good thing. My first day off yesterday I felt crappy and sluggish! So idk-its hard to say-

Darling if I could get the green light to go out of work, I would jump at it!!! I would be able to collect disability through my state and that would be enough to get us through for a while...
But alas, not yet - which I do take as a blessing though bc it is goin ok.... :)

I'm now 26 weeks. My last week of work was a week ago. My DR. orders his twin pregnancy's to go out at 28 weeks. I went even earlier.

I was having way too many braxton hicks. Mainly because I was on my feet alot. Plus, the pressura down there when walking too much can be painful!!

So my doc decided to take me out earlier. I feel much better at home.

You should take off at 28 weeks. Just to relax. 12 hour shift?? Wow.. you go mama! I would be so exhausted.

So don't worry. You need to relax- cause when those babies come.. You'll be busy busy busy!!!

If I had your work schedule, I would take off. As long as you can afford it and it won't go into your time for after the babies come. :good: I was made part time at 30 weeks and taken out of work at 32 weeks, but wasn't put on bedrest. I was huge, couldn't drive myself and was just so tired, so in a way, I was on bedrest because I couldn't do much of anything. I delievered at 39 weeks and maybe me being home helped, but who knows!

Good luck with your decision Momma! :)

My dr took me out at 28 weeks, and I was in PTL at 30, I am grateful she pulled me when she did, but I am a teacher so there was a lot of stress and cervical pressure.

my peri "recommends" ALL multiple mommies go on bedrest at 24 weeks - whether there's a reason to or not - I worked until 35+3 when I started getting pre-e and the OB took me out of work...I had not a single contraction during that time or any issues until the pre-e reared up at 35 weeks...

of course I wouldn't have gotten any time off after they were born if I went out at 24 weeks (I returned to work) but if you can financially do it I would!

Those are really long shifts for this point in a twin pregnancy. Can you cut back to 6-hr shifts? 4-hr? Or at least 8-hr? If you can do that and/or take a break halfway through where you can lie down for at least 30 mins, it might be OK to go a bit longer. but personally, if you can swing it financially I'd probably just follow your doctor's advice. Due to various circumstances, it worked out well for me to stop working at 17 weeks (I'm now studying for a licensure exam but obviously I can do that at home, at my own pace) and it's been a huge blessing. I'm not on bedrest but definitely taking it easy physically. Makes it easy to get the right nutrition, just the right amount of exercise, nap when I need to, etc. The OB I saw on Monday seemed pleasantly surprised by how well I'm doing at this point in pregnancy and I think this lifestyle is really helping.

I cut back to half days at 20-21 weeks and stopped working at 28-29 weeks. I worked a desk job and had a commute into Boston to deal with, so public transportation. I was happy to be off (it was winter, too, so even better). I delivered at 37 weeks. I wasn't on strict bedrest and was out and about up until the day before I delivered. My company paid my short term disability before the babies were born and maternity leave afterward. In MA, you are allowed (not necessarily paid) to take 8 weeks per baby after the birth of your children, so I was allowed to be out of work for 16 weeks after the twins came.

Unfortunately, I cannot do half days. Plus, it would not be worth it because of the commute (1/2 hour) and I pay for parking $7/day.

I spoke with DH and he said to see how I feel. I want to work until I reach 30w and then take off from there.

I do sit at a desk most of the day, but the people that I am around have cooties. The kind of people I work with are the slum of the earth, nasty people.

Thank you for all your advice,
    Jenn
