    Hi mamas,

I'm wondering if any of you can share a story about your 32/33 weekers? I came in on Tuesday for an NST, ended up admitted, was given terb and then indocin, neither really worked, Gabe (baby B) had a couple bad decels, i was changed over to nifedipine, then last night I rejected my third dose because of severe headaches, and NO DOCTORS were talking to me about any of the side effects, to me or babies, the plan, how long on it, what not. Early this morning, Gabe had the worst decel YET...hr 50 for like a minute, dr n nurses running in my room, massaging gabe externally, putting an oxygen mask on me...

i'm a little frustrated and a WHOLE lot scared for my babies. Did any of you encounter this? Any words/advice?

    ps...today's my birthday...WOW, huh?

They will do fine. They sound like they might be better out than in. Mine were born at 33.4 weeks. They put me in b/c Nathan (twin B ) had reversal blood flow to the placenta. They told me they would be better out than in. They might have to be in the NICU for a while. Good luck.

First Happy Birthday. Second wow this must be very scary. I went into PTL at 30 weeks, but with mag sulfate, terbutaline and procardia (nefidipine) I was able to hold out until 34 weeks. However my girls' hrs never decreased... there was one time when the nurses freaked because they thought the hr decreased, and then they couldn't find it, so they rushed an ultrasound machine in and found her... she just moved and was fine.

Did you get steriod shots? Thats the first thing I'd ask the doctor about.. they are usually administered 2 doses separated by 24 hours and will help with the babies' lungs. I think even if you have time for one shot it might be better than nothing. I got the shots at 30 weeks and Ana was fine from the beginning, but Meara need the CPAP and oxygen.. only for a day.

Is your DH with you? Is someone with you? Have that person find a nurse and page the doctor. You have valid concerns and if you feel like no one is talking to you that is unacceptable. This may be just another day for an OB (and just another woman in PTL), but its not just any other day for you. Ask them what is happening and what to expect. Also, during my 30 week scare, they sent someone down from the NICU to talk to me about what to expect with 30 weekers. That was scary, but necessary... and actually it made it easier for me when they were born to understand some of the things that were happening in the NICU. GL!!!!! I'll keep you in my thoughts today. -Leighann

Yes, first I must say Eric (my fiance) has been INCREDIBLE...seriously, this has pulled the best out of him. Second, yes, I received the steroid shots...finished the second a day and a half ago.

I feel NUTS. I don't want to deliver 32 6/7 weekers, BUT...I cannot help but think gabe needs to be out. I think (n the docs think) the indocin lowered their fluids too much, causing variable decels in both babies, but scary decels in gabe (baby b ). I should be getting my official u/s in the next hour from m/f medicine tech OR doc on call... we may deliver right after that...

Every moment I feel crazier, but coming to terms with the fact that my babies might be early birds! I can honestly say I would be honored to share my bday with them...just 32 years apart...LOL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wow wouldn't that be something! To share your bday with the twins!

Mine were 34 and 4/7 ... baby B was in the NICU for 30 hours and baby A was in there for 9 days. I got severe pre-eclampsia so they had to come 2 1/2 weeks before my scheduled C/S.

At this point your babies would most likely be just fine!!! They may have to be in the NICU as growers/feeders ... or on CPAP for a day or so ... but the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor of them being just fine! My Meredith was on CPAP for 10 hours and Hannah just had to have glucose b/c of a low BG and they both had to be in warming beds b/c they couldn't keep their temps up. Meredith rejected bottles in the NICU so she had to have an NG for a while and then they finally let me BF her (under supervision .... I went to "room in" for 24 hours and they weighed her before and after feeds ... to make sure she was getting enough and not losing weight due to burning calories nursing) and she STILL won't take a bottle and she is almost 7 months =)

Those days seem like a distant memory. My girls are head strong fighters and to this day give me a hard time sometimes =) I wouldn't have it any other way.

    Please keep us posted!

Happy Birthday! Some birthday gift! Mine were born at 33 1/2 weeks and spent 10 days in the Level II nursery. BAby A's water broke rather unexpectedly, do 18 hours later, they decided to go ahead and deliver them. I got one dose of the steroid shot just before they put me on the ambulance (I had to go to another hospital) but I don't think it really helped. Will was on CPAP for the first night and then was taken off. James didn't need it. I think my boys were pretty big for 33 weeks, so I think that contributed to the short hospital stay. Don't freak out - babies are born early ALL the time and are perfectly healthy. Like my doctor said - it's time to sh*t or get off the pot - my babies needed out and were fine. Yours will be too. Congratualtions on your new babies!!!!

My boys were born 33wk 1day and spent a month in the NICU. My IUGR baby's water broke and I went into labor, but after the delivery, the placenta was examined. Turns out his placenta was dying. Sometimes the babies do better out than in. Don't worry, there are a lot of 33 weekers around here!

Happy Birthday! It sounds like they should be okay once you get them out. As someone else said, they'll be in the NICU for a few weeks as growers and feeders.

Mine were born at 31 4/7 weeks due to PROM. Once I was admitted to the hospital my dr planned to keep me in for 48 hours to get the steroid shots but the mag sulfate did not stop my contractions. I went from 3cm to 7cm in about 1.5 hours. My babies were born by emergency c-section 6 hours after my water broke - both were breeech. Nathan was 4.8 lbs and Makenna was 4 lbs. He was in NICU for 21 days and she for 33 days. Makenna was on positive airflow for a few weeks and both had NG tubes for 2.5 weeks. She stayed in so much longer than he did due to apnea. Her drs. were trying to give her time to pass the sleep study but she came home on a monitor anyway. We were able to get rid of it Christmas Eve.

Good luck but you probably won't need it.

    Happy Birthday!
I was a NICU nurse for a while and the first thing you should do is ask to speak to the Neonatoligist on staff. Be persistant they will come and speak to you. 33 weeks is just fine to deliver. They wont be going home with you of course. But some times that gives you time to prepare. How it your cervix? Contractions in a multiple pregancy is normal so long as your cervix is ok they can stay in. Although if you baby is Deceling it might just be time to come out. Good luck it will all work out.

    Hi Ladies!!!!

I am now officially one of you! Yes, my first year with twins began today at 12:56 pm with the arrival of Jacoby and 12:57 pm with Gabriel's arrival. My twin baby boys and I all share a birthday!!!

Jacoby and Gabriel both came out SCREAMING!!! Hootin' and hollerin', and both scored an 8 and then a 9 on their apgars. Jacoby is 4.1 lbs and Gabe is 4.7 lbs. I couldn't be happier or more proud at this moment!!!

Thank you for your words....I kept checking the thread for your messages before I was quickly whisked away by a team of docs and nurses because of yet another one of Gabe's decels.

I'll post pics and all later!

Congratulations, what a great birthday! Mine were delivered via c-section at 33 weeks to the day and did great. They spent 18 days as growers and feeders and came home together. I hope you can bring them home soon and so glad to hear they are doing well!

I delivered at 32 weeks due to emergency c-section. babies were in nicu for 2wks and 4wks aprox. i had horrible reaction to magnesium basically went total depression and bonkers. trabutaline(sp) it didn't work much and felt like i was racing. expect small babies with nicu time... and huge hospital bills. but like my sons one of them had to come out (heart rate dropn etc with contractions during ultrasound etc) so its not like had a choice in the matter.... they just look tiny but got all their parts.

My girls were born at 33 1/2 weeks and spent 10 days in NICU as growers and feeders. I'm sure your boys will do wonderfully too!! It was kind of nice to have time to recover from my c sect. w/o having to take care of the babies, too. However, I can remember not feeling that way at the time. Whatever happens, know that the drs are doing what's best for your newbies :)

    Congrats again!!
