I don't have any advice for you... I just wanted to say I noticed a special section for kids with different medical issues. Maybe someone there is in a similiar situation?

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice to offer either, but I just had to comment that we also have a Bridger. I had never heard of anyone else with Bridger as a first name before we put it on his birth certificate, so it's fun to see another one, and a twin at that! I hope you find some help for your sleeping situation.

    Hi!

I have 2 1/2 yr old twin girls. One is being evaled for PDD-NOS, she is in OT right now for sensory issues. She has sensitivities w/ noises & lights as well as some tactile defensiveness. That said- she is my snuggle bunny and sweetheart- she also has some gross motor delays.

She has some sleep issues- have you tried a weighted blanket?? It has been great for us! If you have any ?s PM me if you want. I know there are at least 2 TS people out there with PDD-NOS or one twin high functioning autism.

    HTH!

Our ds has PDD/NOS and was diagnosed at 3. He had severe sleeping issues and his neurologist suggested using Melatonin at night. It is an herbal supplement that many Autistic parents use and also helps business people who travel regulate their system. You can purchase it at any Health food store. We used it with him for maybe one month and that is all it took. We just put a little of it in his sippy cup at night and it put him right to sleep (naturally and safely). It regulated his sleeping pattern and now he is a clock work night time sleeper. If you look on the internet you can probably find quite a bit of information on it and for it being used for Autistic children. I would also talk to your pediatrician or neurologist before using. PM me if you like, it's not always easy having one twin that is autistic and the other is not.

I have one that has developed normally, and the other that has Cerebral palsy, and to tell the truth it's a nightmare keeping up with their differences.

terilynn..thank you for sharing...I know you understand what is like then. Right now my son with PDD gets to go on the bus, to go to a special class. And leaving the other twin behind has been really hard on me, and him. He wants to go on a bus so darn bad. I did get him in the school as a modeling per. But he can't go until this fall. So twice a week I hear Hunter say how he wants to go on a bus. And go to school. I try and do something speical with him regardless, but its still not going on a bus with his brother.
Always way more to the story of course. And I try to stay positive and fun. But their differences are are so obvious as Bridger is verbal but he doesn't engage in alot of receptive language. I ask him simple questions and he gives me a blank stare. Or doesn't acknowledge me. He is a sweet and smily boy though. But has major fits and melt downs that are so confusing on how to handle. The psycologist saids its a good thing WTH? (developmentally) HUMF

devmac...we have been using Melationin. Thank you for passing along the information though. We have been to sleep peditriion. We have tried one sleep med. that was unsuccesful. He wakes every three hours. The dr. said he wants to try one more sleep med then refer us to a sleep specialist and do a sleep study. He suffers from night terrors too. Plus I am so strict with naps...as when he skips them he is more restless, and has more night terrors....but he wakes just screaming every 3 to 4 hours...Its hard on everyone. I end up doing body massages...but I do want to look into the weight blanket...

KCMichigan...I am going to order a weight blanket!! Thanks!! seems like I have heard about them but am grateful for your input thank you!!

I want to add- MAKE a weighted blanket if you or anyone you know are crafty, MUCH cheaper. We got instructions on the Internet (I wish I knew what site, my mom looked it up actually). The ones online are 100+ dollars, it cost us 25$ in materials and about 2 hours. Our OT approved it as well- as in making sure it was the right weight( it is supposed to be about 10% of childs body weight and a lb).

My other DD has had night terrors, we were told to 'wake' her slightly (jsut enough to rouse her) when we went to sleep (about 2-3 hours after her) and that at least seem to help with the ones around 11- 1 am.

Hope things get better for you and your family soon!!

    hi.

We don't have the sleep issues but I do have 1 son diagnosed as PDD-NOS and 1 that is neurotypical.

It is really hard with the vast differences between the 2 of them. Right now both are getting Early Intervention services at home and Jon's therapists have been very good with including his brother in his sessions at times.

Jon gets ABA, speech, occupational, and physical therapy. His old occupational therapist used to bring a weighted vest for him to wear during sessions and he said it helped.

I hope the sleep issues subside. This is hard enough even without that.

I have one with PDD-NOS and the other is typical functioning. Alex also as many sleep issues that we have dealt with. One major thing with his is if he doen't eat enough during the day he wakes up, and he doen't necessarily want to eat then. So I make sure he has something to eat within 2 hour of going to bed. Usually a yogurt or yogurt with baby cereal does the trick. For the last 2 years he would sleep in our bed more then his, due to waking up and not being able to sleep in his bed. I also found I had to be strict with his naps and sleeping. WHen he got over tired he would wake up more often. We have been working on letting him cry it out at night and seem to finally be makeing progress at him sleeping thru the night.

They are both going to school/playgroup now. I do drive them so we don't have the issue of the bus, but Alex goes 5 day/wk and Nicky goes 2 day/wk. The other days I do errands or go to breakfast with him. He LOVES the one on one time with me. But he is such a Mommies boy and would be to scared to go on the bus, so would not care that his brother went. Nicky loves to go to restaurants, so this is our special time to do that as with Alex we could not bring him to one until just this past month. Next week we start some classes at the YMCA for Nicky to do while Alex is at school (and Mommy can workout).
