Just wondering for those of you who may have experienced both. Did you find one to be more convenient than the other or no real difference at all? Thanks.

Oh, and regarding size. If you go with one bathing suit style over the other, is there a difference in size? My girls wear mostly 2Ts right now with some 3Ts on top. My girls are on the heavier side (about 28lbs).

You know, I used to be so opposed to two pieces on girls until I had one! :) It is so much easier to go potty, change diapers, etc... I always buy a more modest one, with more of a tank top and I buy one size bigger. Joy is also a tall and solid little girl! :) I still don't like to see little girls in bikinis, but there are some cute more modest two pieces I am comfortable with. (I am a more modest person, so that is just my preference)

I agree; I just don't like seeing those skimpy bikinis on little girls. I don't think it is appropriate. I think that eensy-weensy-teeny-weeny bikinis are very sexual on a grown woman and that shouldn't be something put on a child. However, had you ever had to take off a wet one-piece to change a diaper and then try to put it on again??? It is nearly impossible! So a good compromise is a tankini, which is a long top with a separate bottom to make those diaper changes much, much easier. My kids are very large too and to have the option of buying a bigger top is nice; plus then the top won't ride up as much on their big round tummies!

Last summer when Hannah was potty training, it was much easier to have a two piece. I found the perfect solution. I had a rash guard type bathing shirt for her, and then the little bikini bottoms. I loved it since it offered more coverage, but allowed for easy access to the potty.

It was a hand me down from Children's Place. I hope I can find a couple more for this summer.

I use a sunsuit top with the uv protection and a bikini bottom for my little girl and swim trunks for my little boy.

I have been getting the swim diapers from Target for my two. They worked a treat over the summer when they were smaller.

I just founds some cute ones in larger sizes.

I got my DD a tankini... when she was 2... She didnt like it at all.. She kept trying to pull the top down to cover her belly.. It was nice for potty time and such but she was not comphy in it at all. Think about how your DD will feel wearing something that will not cover her belly.

    I agree w pp's I think they are a little innaproperate....

Probably because we live in a very very hot climate with a vicious sun (think arizona-style), most of the children here wear zip up all-in-ones covering from their knees to their elbows or lycra shorts and t-shirts covering the same region. both have great sun protection. but the two piece is easier to manage.

I'm getting them rashguard shirts with swim shorts this summer since we plan on potty training. I have had to change diapers with one piece bathing suits and it's a pain!

I've never uesed the two pieces, but I also didn't find the one piece completely terrible. It was annoying yes, but doable.

Last year I got Peyton a 4t and Mackenzie a 3t (they were 2 1/2 this past summer). Mackenzie is a stick figure though, while Peyton is more of an average sized child (right now 28 pounds for Kenz vs 32 pounds for Pey).

We have to have twon pieces because the girls are so long bodied. Its also easier to change diapers

I could've written your post. I too was so opposed to two pieces for little girls until Audrey was potty trained. I can tell you it is soo much easier to pull down a bottom than it is to take off a wet one piece in a hurry. I've given in and bought her a modest two piece because of the convenience.

Two pieces are so much easier. We use the Baby Banz SPF 50+ Swimsuits for our girls because they provide great sun protection and easy access for potty breaks. When they were younger, we had the one piece Baby Banz suits but they have snaps on the bottom so diaper changes were simple.

We also used our Happy Heiny cloth diapers as swim diapers because they are approved in CA for that use and are much cheaper than disposable swim diapers if you are planning on swimming a lot. You can't beat the cute factor as well. ;)

My husband prefer the 1-piece swimsuit, ha! I have a question -- are you saying I should get the 2 piece if they are 21-22 months. I have not potty trained them yet but will be buying the potty toward to end of March. I'm a first time parents, thanks!

Diana, I am not sure how old your kids are, but Hannah was 27 mos when she potty trained, right in the thick of summer. If you plan on potty training before or during summer, then yes I recommend a two peice.

When my girls were still in diapers they only wore swim diapers, no suit over them!
They started day training with no diapers by 20 months and I got them a bikini. Even now over three it's still easier. Little kids who are having fun usually give little or no warning before having to go. They shout pee pee and make a run for the bathroom. Plus, they've just grown up, not out over the past year so their 2T bikinis still fit them. I'm going to stick with two pieces for the time being.

They just turned 16 mos on Jan 30th. Their birthday is Sept. 30, 2006. I am planning on getting the potty when they turn 18 mos old. I know it'll be a while before they'll actually be "PT". After reading past message board on PT. So, should I get the one piece for Rianna this Summer?

    Thanks for reading in, Diana

Sarah has swim shorts and a swim shirt. She also wanted "swim panties" so I bought the swim shirt that had a bikini bottom that she used.

For cuteness purposes, whatever you like best. For diaper-changing or potty purposes, nothing beats a 2-piece.

    I'm pro-bikini, though. I love the little bellies sticking out. :) http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7cc3...025109Qct2rVqyk

    Betsy,

That picture is so hilarious. I started laughing out loud. Too cute. I too don't really mind bikinis or having their bellies hanging out. What I mind is seeing someone my age with a bikini with a big belly hanging out. The girls will mostly be in my backyard so I'm not worried about who will see them or anything. I had the spf shirt/bikini bottom last year but I just want something really really cute this year. My girls are not potty training yet and not sure when we will start. So I'm think of just getting them each a one piece and a bikini if I can afford it and go from there. Guess I'll just have to see for myself. Thanks for all your responses.

Dh and I both dont like 2 pieces. Maybe its whats happened in my past and I am afraid of what creeps are thinking when they see them in them. Its just hard for me to get past so I only do one pieces. I have seen some cute tankin's on little girls they just arent for us

I'm with you on that one. I wouldn't put my girls in a bikini. That's one reason why I like the two-piece Baby Banz swimsuits. The other reason is that the girls are fair skinned and the extra sun protection is so important.

BTW, that is a cute swimsuit Melissa. :D

I found that 2 pieces are so much easier. The Gap has them that the top is like a surfer t-shirt made of bathing suit material with a bikini bottom. Adorable, good coverage from the sun and comfy!
