One of our boys started eating MY hair, his brother’s hair, and his own hair?

Is this really weird behavior? Should I be concerned?

A few weeks ago, when Twin A was really sick with a relatively high fever, he started trying to pull out my hair and eat it while I was holding him :0 He’s done this several times since then, MOSTLY when he’s really tired while cuddled up, ready to go to bed. If he can’t pull out my hair he tries to chew on it, or puts ‘imaginary’ hair in his mouth. If I stop him from doing this to me he does this to his hair or his twin’s :0

I’m a little concerned because he banged his head really bad a few weeks ago (fell backward and his head hit the corner of the cabinets… rushed him to the ER and he had a dent in his head :0) They said he was fine but could he have suffered brain damage from his fall? I am also concerned about both of their language development, but especially his. Is this a normal toddler phase, or do I need to worry this might be a sign of more serious head trauma or a developmental problem? Only reason why I’d worry about this is I did a search and it said Pica is common in head trauma and developmental problems :0

It sounds pretty "toddlerish" to me, but if you are really concerned - talk to your pediatrician and call your local Early Intervention Birth to 3 program for a developmental evaluation.

My boys went through short phases of putting my hair into their mouths. :)

I agree with Jori, sounds toddlerish to me as well
I'm sorry to hear about the fall but I wouldn't worry about it! If you are concerned then talk to your ped and tell them your concerns. I also recommend getting an EI eval if you're worried about speech. GL

I also agree with Jori. My DD goes through hair eating phases and as much as I try to keep her away from it, I do find it every once in a while in her diaper :bad: (sorry for the TMI). I also agree that if you are still concerned to contact your pedi.

I agree that it is most likely just a phase. I, personally, wouldn't think it has anything to do with his fall. If you are concerned definitely talk to your Ped. Also, eating hair is a sign of low iron. (My niece has been put on iron drops due to eating hair and it she is much better with the situation!)

    Good luck!!!
