So Saturday evening Addison started sounding conjested. By Monday morning she was coughing and snotty. No temp., eating great, not fussy at all. The ped. said it was just a cold and would run it's course within a week, but to call if her temp. went to 100.4 or above. Fast forward to last night and her sister Payton, who is the tiniest bit conjested and coughs rarely spikes a fever. After a call into the ped. at 11:00pm she said take her to ER.
The did bloodwork, urine, chest and back x-rays, and even a spinal tap (eek!) and everything came back normal. Originally we were told she could leave when all the tests came back normal. Then at 5am this morning the ped. nurse said it would be 24 hours and we could expect her to be discharged at midnight tonight. Around 11am or so, the on call ped. said they wanted to keep her for 48 hours to make sure she doesn't have a reaction to the antibiotics they gave her. *sigh*
So I'm waiting for my mom and MIL to get here so I can head to the hospital to relieve DH. MIL is staying with Addi and mom is driving me up, as I haven't been released to drive yet. I feel so bad. Little Payton didn't even seem sick and here she is being poked and prodded, while Addi sounds horrible and is home and cozy with me. I just want my babies to be better!

This sounds like what happened to my dd when she was 5wks old. They did the same tests and everything. I had checked her temp and it was upper 90's called the dr and said to watch well I took her temp an hour later it was 101 went to the ER and by then it was 102.1 well the admitted her immediatley and for the first day didn't know what was wrong with her. They thought pnemonia but she didn't have the regular symptoms of coughing, wheezing, fever (it went away with the only dose of tyleno she had and didn't come back)So after 1 day of antibiotics so many things were thrown around and talked of keeping her for 2wks to treat for everything. Finally the next day they went with pnemonia and let her out but it was horrible. Anyway I'm sorry about your baby I hope she is well soon....My babies were 38wks and came home with me and I know how it feels to have your baby in the hospital and not at home and not being able to do anything. It sucks..

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry for you and your family and little Payton. It is so frightening and stressful to have such a little one in the hospital. We went through something similar and it was such a relief to have her home again. I hope that Payton is released quickly and everything gets back to normal for you!

    Well we're home. Finally!
Well we had a heck of a ride. Payton's unofficial diagnosis was viral sepsis ... basically a cold. All of her testing came back normal/negative. No RSV, no Menegitis, no bacteria in the blood, etc. We were supposed to be discharged last night, but the blood cultures didn't come in until 3am so we had to stay another night. It was agony. I hate the hospital covered by my DH's insurance. It's like pulling teeth to get anything from them. I miss my hospital.
In any case after being told we had to stay another night, and that we could leave this AM, we waited an additional 10 hours for the weekend Ped. to come on duty and clear us. She walked in, listened to Payton's heart and said ... ok I'll send in a nurse to take her IV out and you can leave. What??? We could have done that hours before. Ah well. So we finally got to leave at 1pm today.
We did find out the little Peanut has a heart murmur. A big fear for us. Both of neice and nephew were born with murmurs and our nephew went through open heart surgery at 2 months of age to close 3 holes in his heart. Scary stuff. So far they think it's nothing since she's growing and developing well, we just have to keep an eye on it. So keep us in your prayers. In any case I'm exhausted. We didn't get much sleep last night as they were pushing antibiotics and doing vitals every 2-3 hours. On the up side both girls seem to be doing great. Both are left with a slight cough, but no temps. and little to no runny noses. Yay! Thank goodness, I can't stand to see them sick. Thank you so much for all your well-wishes, we appreciate it so much! Hopefully we won't have to do this again for a long, LONG time.

We just went through this w/my 7 yo (pneumonia), luckily no hospital time. But big hugs, it was hard enough w/the older one, can't imagine having to do it w/the twins!
