We knew it was coming. Mary is our climber... she'll climb anything she can. She scooted up her infant/toddler rocking chair, and while standing on the armrest part, hoisted herself onto the dining room table. That took a lot of upper body strength! Yesterday, I heard feet padding around in their room during nap time, when i had put them in their cribs. Sure enough, Mary had climbed out. I tried putting her back 3 more times, but each time she promptly climbed out with ease. No struggle about it. What was funnier though, was Hannah, her twin, was so trying to get out of her crib too. She would literally, put her head down on the mattress, then, kick her feet up onto the rail. She then of course would summersault. She got so mad wondering why it wasn't working for her. She just kept trying and trying. We took down their cribs, and put their mattresses on the floor. They didn't nap yesterday, so they were so tired, they fell asleep before bedtime. We carried them upstairs. Both my DH and I were up once because one woke up crying and scared. Then, they got up around 5:45am (usually it's 7am) They've been crabby all day, but they didn't sleep well. Right now, I'm attempting a nap, but they keep walking around the room crying. Someone was banging on the door a little bit ago. This is going to be hard...

Hi-here is a few other things we did to keep them in the cribs longer....

1-turn the crib around so the high part is facing out from the wall. It makes it a bit harder to get out.

2-put the mattress directly on the floor (but it sounds like yours can still get out anyway...)

3-put them back in sleep sacks to prevent them from hoisting their leg over the side.

We never used crib tents, but I know some have been successful with that plan.

My DD has been out of the crib since 2, my DS is still content (for now) to stay in the crib. With my DD, I've worked on her understanding it's "quiet time." Even if she doesn't sleep, she needs to stay in her room for an hour and not bother her brother. At 18 months it might be hard for them to understand quiet time. That's still pretty young!

we switched to toddler beds at 18 months & the transition was a cranky time, but if you want to stick with it, they will adjust & the novelty will wear off. we had to make sure there was absolutely nothing fun to play with in their room (including taking the light bulbs out of the overhead light so they couldn't play with the switch) anymore & basically left them alone to figure it out. GL!

My DD started climbing out at 19 months and we switched her to a toddler bed as well. It took her about a week or two to transition but once she did, she was fine. She barely napped during that time and passed out at night.
    Good luck with your decision!

We're sticking with no cribs. They'll have to anyway, so we might as well do it now. We haven't bought toddler beds yet, so their mattresses are on the floor. They've slept well the last 2 nights, but nap time is still a issue. I put them down an hour ago, and I still hear feet padding around on the floor.

good luck! I tried it at 24 months for 2 months and it fed me up so bad I had to go back to cribs. I love my tents (though am not sure I'd have paid retail... I got both used for $20), though they have the zippers figured out.

one thing that pp said is that if you can get the toddler beds figured out now hopefully you'll regain your naps & bedtime before they are too old... I keep wanting to go back to toddler beds but I don't know if I can handle no naps...

I also did the sleep sack thing for several months, that really helped before they got too tall.

again, good luck, hopefully you get it figured out soon!

    oh geeze! good luck!
For naps we had to seperate them to make it work.
One in the room the other(the less likely to climb) in a PnP in another room.
