At one month- my routine was---- Make it through the day ALIVE.

The only thing you can schedule at this point is feedings.. The rest falls into place with time. Don't worry too much about scheduling anything until closer to 4 months. You'll do what I did and beat yourself up over it and there's not a whole lot that can be scheduled until babies are ready and they aren't ready yet.

Just roll with it at this point. I am just happy that I lived through that stage :) Good luck!

I have to agree with the PP. At one month we did what we had to do to survive!!!

Um, yes. At 1 mo, you really can't expect much predictability from most babies. As long as they get to eat when they're hungry and sleep when they're tired and everyone gets through the day in one piece, you're good!

I was actually thinking about this post again the other day...

It really kind of irks me, in hindsight, that people were tripping me out with the SCHEDULE SCHEDULE SCHEDULE deal!! They started in on me, pretty much from the day I got home f/ the hospital.. I was sooo concerned and I really felt like I was slacking off or something when all I really wanted to do for the first 14 weeks was pack my bags and move into a hotel ALONE or jump out the window.

I actually had very little luck "scheduling" my boys at all. I read books, searched scheduling online and pretty much just beat myself up over the fact that my kids seemed "unschedulable.."

I now realize, at 5 mos old (4 adj), that I was WAY too hard on myself!! All of the things that are supposed to happen- did happen-- and at the appropriate time. It didn't take me MAKING them do anything..

So.. anyone that's worried that their tiny baby isn't on a schedule YET.. Please don't!! Try not to get ahead of yourself and worry unnecessarily!! The first 14 weeks at our house were all about survival. If I would have just lightened up on MYSELF a tiny bit- it might have felt a little more manageable.

    Good luck!!

Yep, no schedule at 1 month. It was at about 2 months when I started recognizing their cues (sounds of crying: hunger vs hunger) and that was when a schedule started (by them!) Make it through your day at one month! :hug99:

    Hi,

Our babies will also be one month this Tuesday. Our schedule is feed every 3 hours (formula) with the Babies being one half hour apart. They then stay up for a little look around, fuss and back to sleep for about 2 hours then it starts all over again. Oh yeah, as soon as we wake them they get a diaper change. Is that what you would call a schedule? ;) I can't believe all you ladies who are strong enough to have more kids!! I heard it does get better? Right?

Our schedule at one month was...feed the babies when they're hungry, amuse the babies when they're awake, and sleep when you can. Not much help I know. ;)

At one month my life was on repeat every 3 hours around the clock. Our 'schedule' was: change diaper, feeding bottle, burp, swaddle, bed, wash bottles, shove food in my mouth, pee, lather rinse repeat. I think routines can be established this young, but schedules are several months away. GL!

We had nothing anywhere close to a schedule- I suppose they did eat about every 3 hours, and they mostly slept or played in their swing or something like that in between, so I guess you could call that a schedule?? But really, we just survived and tried to keep the babies as happy as possible!

Though, I DO have a friend with twins who are about 3 months now, and believe it or not, she does have them on a schedule and has had it for a good while now... I have NO idea how she does it, she's one amazing gal! :bow2: So, I suppose it IS possible (just not in MY world! )

hi there! mrsbq02 reminded me of a question i've been meaning to ask! (and btw, at 2 months my little one is on no kind of schedule yet!).

my boys were preemies, as many twins are, and i was wondering how early people used bouncers and swings w/their kids? only one of mine is home yet (brother still in nicu but coming home soon), and i've put him in the bouncy seat a couple times--he was not impressed! and, i was kind of nervous about him jiggling around too much. he's just over 5lbs now--is it too early? we have swings, bouncy seats, etc, all waiting to be unwrapped!

    thanks, jl

At one month the babies schedules consisted of sleeping, pooping/peeing, and eating. They were hardly awake at all, and even now they still sleep alot during the day. I was on pure survival mode. At almost 3 month mine are just now starting to get into some sort of a schedule, but it still varies day to day sometimes. Don't worry about a shedule....worry about catching up on some sleep!

To the question about the bouncy seats/swings.....mine went in them both from day one. DD was 4lbs 12oz and DS was 5lbs 2oz when they came home. They actually went in the bouncy seat together at first, and took turns in the swing. My swing reclines really far back though and had an extra padded thing for newborns.
