One eats, one doesn't

Okay, as of last week my 16 month boys ate soooo well, I was considering reducing their meals (3-4 full meals/day, Mason was not so good on the fruit, but both ate meat, grain, yogurts, applesauces etc.) because they are already 29 lbs (solid muscle, hardly any baby fat!) and about 33" tall...my little linebackers have done really well. (they are not yet walking either, but crawling like mad men and cruising/climbing/blabbering all day long-IOW burning alot of calories!!)

Now I'm lucky to get a single meal in to them...they throw their food, push it off the table...I DO not play that game of pickup with them (I value my back)...and the meal I do get, may be 1/2 a piece of toast with cheese melted on top, a few spoonfuls of yogurt, and some juice...

I never know what to make them...chances are it ends up on the floor...and this goes with healthy foods I hand make and not so healthy food that come right out of a box.

I'm assuming this is a stage and that eveybody goes through it and it will eventually end...but how do I deal with this? how do I get food in to their tummies? how long does this last?

Any advice, suggestions and experiences would be appreciated!!

It seems to me that they have just come through a growth spirt and have less of an apitite now. Mine boys would go on a feeding fenzy for a week or so and then eat hardly anything at all for awhile. My pedi always told me that they would not starve themselves. Just keep putting out your meals as per your schedule and go from there. Try not to force them to eat ( I know that it is easier to say than to do) else mealtime will become a battlefield.

Good Luck and I am sure they will come around!

They still go through their growth spurts. Don't look at each meal individually and look at the days or even week's meals to see if they have gotten what they need.

I have that trouble and while it was really stressful while we were trying to get them to sleep etc., I am more apt to be ok with going to bed a bit hungry (although recently this bit me back!). I have a hard time getting them to eat at meal times. They want to snack all day!!

the pedi has always told me they will not starve themselves. just keep offering them their meals and snacks. we do three meals and two snacks....they say they should eat every 2-3 hrs. because their tummies are little and can't hold that much. she has also told me to look at a week of eating and not each day.

mine still throw food all over...it is a phase and part of their learning/discovering.
