One crib to one Bed

My grils are still in one crib (side car to our bed) and I am not planning on buying another crib. I think because we have it side carred and they sleep horizontal in the crib, they will have a lot more space and can stay together longer. I want to keep them in one crib and then move them to a queen bed.

I moved my older ds from his crib to a twin mattress on the floor when he was around 11 months (we also co-slept for part of the night with him). He was happier on the mattress.

I think as long as they are safe, I don't feel like they have to be in a crib.

Has anyone done this.... sharing one crib and then sharing a big bed? How has it worked for you and when did you make the transition?

I didn't even move my singleton til he was 2.5 years old, and my twins are still in cribs now so I am not sure if I can give you any advice. Best I can say is when are you planning on moving them into a bed?

My girls shared a crib for a bit, then were in seprate cribs then back in one crib together, Then we converted both cribs to toddler beds, but most night they wanted to sleep together in the narrow twin day bed in the extra bedroom. So we decided to get them one full size bed, but with the settling down to go to sleep issues we are having, I am considering getting a full size bed for the other room and seperating them. Only problem is that the extra room has their furniture and i don't trust them in their with it.

Our crib was twin bed sized (custom made) and the rails came off when they turned 3. They've always slept with their heads at separate ends and they are getting really too big for that. Their legs now overlap a lot! I've already told them they will get a second bed for their 4th birthday (this September) and I think I'll stick to that plan.

I don't know, but it'll be interesting to see how that goes! I'm sure they'll have a very close bond!

    Not for a while yet.

There must be twins out there sleeping in one big bed. And if so, did they share a crib until they moved to one bed? I am not crazy, right?

They sleep really good together. I put them at opposite ends of the crib and every time I check on them, they are snuggled together in the middle!

It doesn't sound crazy at all to me.
The reason I didn't go one double bed, was that we don't really have the space. We they get their second twin size bed this fall it will be a mid-sized loft (like 3feet from the top of the matress to the floor) that will be in an L shape with the lower bed (which is lower than a normal bed) That way they will have a little bit of floor space to play in their room. With one double bed they wouldn't have that floor space.

So they like to be together, but it is starting to cause problems at bedtime?

Thanks, I was beginning to think I was crazy. I remember a thread a few months ago about where their kids slept and some people said on big bed, but I couldn't find it. There were also some pics too.

Mine slept in the same crib until about 5-6 months when they started rolling over onto each other. That worried me, so we separated into 2 cribs. It broke my heart to have to separate them, I loved to go in an see two sleeping cuties together, but it just didn't feel safe to me, especially when I found Sam laying across Em's belly.

I plan on keeping them in cribs (ours convert to toddler beds) for as long as I can to keep them from wondering around and getting into things instead of going to sleep.

I have no advice, but I think that sounds so sweet. I have one VERY independent sleeper, who is prone to overstimulation and doesn't like to have interference when he is sleeping, so my boys never really slept together despite my desires to have them do so. I'm always so happy to see other people's snuggle bug twins! Good luck-- I hope it works out great for you!

I think this sounds like a neat idea, but the only issue I can think of for you is that your girls may outgrow their crib sooner than you think if you have them sleeping horizontally. For us, the girls became too long to sleep that way around six or seven months (I can't exactly remember) so they had to sleep the long way in the crib. They also started rolling all over the place around that same age and there wasn't enough room side by side the long way, so we separated them, but kept the two cribs next to each other so the girls can reach over and hold hands or touch each other (or steal toys).
