One crib or two?

Am expecting twins in December and am wondering if I need to get another crib. I already have one that my older son used. Do many parents use just one at the beginning?

Congrats on your twins! Everyone has different experiences but we split our girls up at 2 months and moved them into their own cribs. For the first two months they were in a pack and play in our room.

We are planning on putting the twins in 1 crib for the first 4 months or so- we have bought a 2nd matching crib for when they will be put in separate cribs.

From what I've read, most ppl seem to co-sleep them in the same bed (crib, play pen, whatever) until they are old enough to start rolling over where they could hurt one another.

I used the same crib until about 4 months old.

I am still using the same crib for my boys (almost 21mo old). Will separate hopefully at 2.

    Congratlulations on your twins!
My two shared a crib for the 1st 6 months and then we separated them in their own cribs.

    Congratulations on your twins!

We still have ours in one crib at 16 months. It will definitely work for the first few months.

I think it depends on your babies. Some do really, really well with 1 crib. Mine hated it. O was a heat-seeking missile even at a couple months old and would scoot himself over to S and annoy the BE-Jesus out of him  so we really only put them together a handful of times. I had grand visions of them sharing a crib but it just didn't happen for mine.

I also had 2 cribs ready to go so that they could separate. I don't think you necessarily need 2 cribs right away, but definitely 2 places to lay them down, so a PNP and a crib would work.

    Congrats on your twins!

You'll find that people do it all different ways. Our boys were in the NICU for the first 84 days of their lives (separated). When they came home we co-slept them in a PNP (in our room) for a very short time and then moved them to separate PNPs. They were in their cribs, in their nursery, by the time they were 2-3 months adjusted (I am not a fan of extended use of PNPs and felt they'd be more comfy in their nice cribs). I never considered co-sleeping them in their cribs. I didn't like the idea of them smushed up against each other and when they started moving around a lot, I didn't want them to disturb each other (heck, they disturb each other enough as it is in separate cribs). I know some people have co-slept their twins for long periods of time and it works well, but I've never understood how!
My advice would be to test whatever way you're most comfortable and make adjustments according to how it works (and, like a pp said, I'd make sure to have two separate places for them to sleep in case you try co-sleeping and it does not work).

My girls slept together until they were five and a half years old.
They coslept with us (mostly me) until they were a year then I transitioned them into a custom made twin matress size crib. They slept together in that, we eventually took the railing off and they continued to sleep in that until they were old enough to have bunk beds.

I was actually wondering the same thing. We have just one crib as of right now that we bought from Pottery Barn Kids. I don't want to have to buy one to match if it's not necessary. I've heard that I should get a second crib when the twins are 3 months because they will start scratching each other? I guess we'll have to just take it one day at a time. Worst case we have a pack and play if we need something temporary.

Ours shared until about 3 months. We don't swaddle and one sleeps completely sprawled out and the other on his side and when he wakes u sometimes he scoots himself 90 degrees or so...just not enough room for them to not disturb each other. They sometimes doze off together though, in the pack and play or on a mat and it's almost painfully cute when they sometimes link arms or hold hands. The other day I found him sucking on her hand. LOL
