My dh is being very sweet about this baby and he actually wants to pick a name NOW which is normally what I want and he wants to wait until like 39 weeks or even worse 2 hours before we come home from the hospital!! LOL!! the problem is that we had a name picked. Asher - we liked it because it means blessed and happy - the meaning just fit our feelings. We had not come up with a girl name yet. my problem is not that he wants to change our boy name because I figured that would change a million times before July but the names he has choosen. and he is serious. this is his list Jekyll (I have NO idea for a boy or girl) my thoughts - the island Or dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Rudy - my thoughts not horrible just not my style Bono - my thoughts -U2 Glory (Glory Bella to be exact) my thoughts- a horse name I can hear the announcer at the Kentucky derby in my mind I feel bad because I hurt his feelings I thought he was joking so I shared my thoughts with him so NOW every time I give him a suggestion he comes back with something crazy like I suggested Luke and he is walking around the house saying "Luke, I am your father" I may go crazy!!
Once he suggested Jekyll as your baby's name, he lost naming rights. Please pick your child's name! Asher is fabulous BTW!
I am with Rachael on this one. I can't imagine a baby named Jekyll. I would have assumed he was joking too!
I wish you could have been a fly on the wall when he suggested Jekyll - he was SO serious!! and when I shot it down, he said that it was just because it is uncommon and if I had ever seen a cute kid named Jekyll I would change my mind - I told him it is unheard of for a reason and if I saw a cute kid named Jekyll, I would think cute kid, crazy name!! Thanks on Asher - I have always loved it!!
I feel your pain. My DH hates traditional names- he is a Ben and feels that it's too vanilla. We had the hardest time picking names, too. He drove me crazy with weird names like Icarus. Or Socrates. :faint:
Jekyll? Really? I would have laughed if my husband suggested that. I would stick with Asher. I did see a little boy tonight named Beckham and thought that was kind of cute. I never would have thought of that in a million years.
We have son named Asher- so I am partial to that name and we too LOVED the beautiful meaning!!! So hard with naming controversies! I hope it works out smoothly. Rebecca
Another fan of Asher! I never heard that name until a friend named her son that two years ago and I now love it!!!
Thanks! I am curious to see what names he throws out there today! Something I could never imagine I am sure!! Maureen! Beckham is a very cute name!!
Jekyll - Yesterday I was in Target and there was a dad with his three kids. But the girl's name threw me for a loop. Holiday. If I was dear Miss Holiday, I'd be changing to Holly ASAP!
I went to school with a Diamond Holiday... I LOVE the name Asher! I too would have laughed if my husband had suggested that.
Oh my goodness!! I will be sure not to mention Holiday or Diamond Holiday to him, they would surely be on his list!!
I recently met a little boy named....Atilla! (as in "the Hun") I swear! I had the hardest time maintaining my speech and not stuttering like an idiot. Why would someone do that to their child! Really!
Oh no!! I am just so glad It is not our (my lol!) belief that the father has to name the baby!!! Travis would probably love the name Atilla!! Atilla seriously!!!!
Heather, I really like the name Asher and I think I would have to tell DH that he can only pick out names when he is the one who goes in to labor with a child  I did tell my DH that...I still wonder why he is married to me... My mother knew a family with the last name of Day and yes, they named two of their kids Sunny and Raine. I don't know what people think sometimes with kids names. My DH used to joke with his sisters that he would name his children Doppler and Percocet---only because it would make his sisters so upset...they just did not enjoy that joke for some reason.
OMG, The whole list is pretty bad. I feel bad in saying this, but Glory Bella sounds like a great porn star name.
My husband says to tell your husband that Adolph was a perfectly good name before Hitler too. He's wondering if your husband would like to try to turn that one around with a cute kid.
I think your husband is trying to get out of naming duty. My husband uses that theory all the time: if I do it badly enough, she won't make me do it again. I like Asher a lot!
Lol!!! It does!!!! And yeah, the whole list is dreadful!!! When it comes time to officially name this kid I may have to send him on a mission and fill the paper work out myself. Seriously.
Omg!! I am afraid to ask him!! Next thing you know he will add it to Jekyll. Adolph Jekyll or. Jekyll Adolph. LOL!!
This thread inspired a great conversation between my husband and I. We were in the car yesterday for about an hour and a half and I told my husband about this, we spent the rest of the car ride thinking up the most ridiculous baby names we could think of. I can't remember what they were now, but they were ridiculous. We both agreed that Jekyll was a terrible choice. But thanks for giving us some laughs.
Our friends have an Asha too. :good: I also told dh about this thread. His comment was I guess he really didn't want to talk about baby names. When I explained he is the one who initiated the conversation he was just
Asher. I love Hebrew names. I think another meaning of Asher is fortunate. It's a very rich name.
Asher David Asher Levi Asher Benjamin Asher Mathew Asher Isaac Asher Nathaniel (I am partial to Nathaniel, but only because I have one) Asher Jacob Asher Julian
What if you made a list of 10-15 names you would be okay with and your DH can pick any one of those? My DH was deployed when we were going through the naming process so I started with an email of about 20 names I liked then he narrowed it down to 5 then I got to pick one. I really like the name Asher. Maxim was another unusually one I heard but like. Good luck! Glad he decided to start this debate early for you! Could you imagine if you were trying to get the baby home and he said Jekyll??? :aggressive:
