If you've been following- I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY FOR A LONG LONG LONG LONG TIME!!! Syd took probably 10 steps by herself and Kaysie took half as many. It's been a long couple of months- as the girls have been doing PT and Ot since Sept. secondary to their extreme prematurity and weakness of muscles. They told me (dr) that at 18 months- they would look at other things if they weren't and today just proved that they are on their own schedule!!!! THEY WALKED THEY WALKED!!!!

Now- here's my question- DH and I sat on the floor and they went back and forth to us- what's next? I know that sounds like a very stupid question but during the day- it's just me so there is no extreme motivation of parents yelling [IMG] hehe! Wonder how long it will be until they truly are WALKING on their own independently??????

BUt hey- THEY WALKED!!!!!I'm just praying for continued progression and no regression!! We'd like to be done with PT and OT [IMG]

YAY!!!! OH MY GOSH!!! THAT IS FANTASTIC!!!! WOW!! Just when you thought they would never walk [IMG] Watch out, pretty dresses are a comin' for summer!! (I was bummed about no dresses for a while [IMG] )

Keep them practicing!! Just keep hanging in there and they'll just go eventually!! You'll see a progression of 50% or 75% of the time then 90% of the time. When they can walk more comfortably than they can crawl (they might be faster crawling, and like that) they'll just go!! [IMG] I'm really happy for you and them!

Thank you Diane- I was crying because it has been such a stressor for me- with all their appts and all the worry and concern.

That is some of the most wonderful news I've heard in a while. I'm so glad you shared.

What I did when they were learning and DH was at work was to stand them up against the couch and sit a couple of feet in front of them. Then I'd ask them to come to me. I'd make ALL OVER them if they even tried. They were walking in no time. They are still pretty unsteady for awhile but, hey, practice makes perfect, right?

You must feel SO great tonight. Great big happy hugs coming your way!

Oh, Jennie! Thanks!!!! I'm tearing up right now- I just can't explain all the concern and fear and worrying I have gone through the last couple of months- the yearning of signs of improvement!! ANything to grab onto! I was getting so worried! And the therapists were really trying to figure out- if it was weak muscles, strained hamstrings, etc. But I am praying they continue! They were beyond proud of themselves! It's amazing to watch the littlest things in life- take the biggest steps and see how happy it makes them!!! so neat!

Thanks again! Oh, and by the way- we should get together- you're not that far from me [IMG] I was just in Hartville yesterday.

NO WAY!!! How cool is that? Ainsley's been doing a few steps between objects for about two weeks, then today just started with across the room. Bea OTOH went really fast in her walking progression. I try not to pressure Ainsley too much. I have been doing things like moving objects farther apart, I back up a little when she is coming towards me. Not too much though, I don't want her to think I'm backing away.

I totally understand being worried and wondering if she will ever catch up. I always wonder if Ainsley would be delayed anyway, even if nothing happened at birth.

Ha, I had forgotten about the "no dresses until you can walk rule!!" Heheh, it's funny watching them try to crawl with skirts on.

Anyway, GREAT NEWS Carley! OMG, I cant' believe it!!! I know that you have waited for this for SOOOOOOOO long now. That is just the best news ever!!!! I'm so proud of those little troopers!! I knew they would do it...they are just doing it in their own sweet time [IMG]

Just keep encouraging them. Once they start, they never stop!! For the longest time Reagan would take 2-3 steps here and there. One day she did like 7-10 steps and never looked back at that point! I think you can say you officially have walkers!! Even my nephew was just doing the 2-3 step thing for a long time. Then, at his 1st b-day party, he was around my girls, his 4-yr. old twin cousins and another little boy who can walk. That day, after being around other kids and wanting to play, he stood at one end of the room and just walked across it like he owned the place. It was the cutest thing. He's been walking since!

Anyway, there is MORE hope coming your way!!!! Can't wait to see some pictures of them walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!

This is exactly what I am doing right now with Trevor. He has taken 3 steps and when he does I just shout "yay, Trevor" and make a big deal about it. Or I stand him in the middle of the floor and scoot a few steps away from him, but not too far.

    WTG girls, keep it up.

As far as encouraging them, what I did with Sarah (Amy never cared about encouragement) was to stand her up and then quickly back away a few feet, then just encourage her to come to me. She usually would, because she was so excited! And even if she fell down (if she got TOO excited and tried to go too fast) I would still hug her and make a big deal of it.

This lasted about a week and then she didn't need my encouragement and just started exploring on her own.
