    Hi there.

I have 3 DS, oldest is 3 1/2 and twins are 1 1/2. My older DS has apparently just developed an imaginary friend. He's been talking about 'the word' over the past 2 weeks and I thought it must be something they talk about at daycare. If we tell him to do something he doesn't want to do, he'll say that 'the word says no.' Such as, we say "It's time to go to bed" and he'll start crying and say "The word says no. The word says I don't have to go to bed." Or if I say 'Don't jump on the couch." he says "the word says that's not nice. The word says no, I can jump on the couch." I asked at daycare this morning if they talk about 'the word' at all. They had no idea but said they'd observe him and his friends to see if they noticed anything. I called the director later this morning (he was crying at dropoff and she took him for a little while before he went into his class) and she brought up that she thinks it's an imaginary friend. He apparently lives in our house and has brown and white eyes!! She said it's a unique name, but that it's fairly normal at his age.

He gets along wonderfully with the twins... hugging, kissing, playing, and they are 1 1/2, so I don't think it's anything to do with the babies... I hope, anyway!! Anyone else experience imaginary friends in siblings?

    thanks.

My kids are a little young for imagainary friends, but that is a very interesting story! I wonder why it's "the word?" I'd love to hear an update on this.

Well, we spoke to DS a little more about this and sure enough, The Word is a friend. He's tiny, has brown and white eyes, is very nice, and plays with the babies sometimes, too. He said that DS didn't have to eat his veggies last night at dinner, so I asked if The Word knew that if DS didn't eat his veggies, he wouldn't get dessert... sure enough, The Word then said DS should eat his veggies!!

So, I wasn't expecting another family member :icon_biggrin: but I guess we have one!! We've done some research and realized we need to accept The Word. DH and I are now saying "Gotta respect The Word!!" :winking0009:

That's awesome! I just got the giggles :)

I apparently had an imaginary friend when I was about your DS's age. His name was Angelo... :)

My oldest dd had an imaginary friend at this age. His name was Link. Dh must have played Zelda around her too much. It will go away as he gets older. Link just disappeared when she was around 5.

My daughter has started playing with someone named "Emma". Emma lives in the woods and when we play outside the kids "go to her house" to visit her on their bikes. :) My son isn't as imaginative just yet, but he plays right along with it and has started talking more and more about her too. It's kinda cute!

That is really cute! Gotta respect The Word indeed, LOL.

My DD imagines that the Little Einsteins live in our house, and sometimes Leo and Annie go to school with her. I love it, because she will play for long stretches by herself...err...with the Einsteins!

My daughter had 2 imaginary friends. When she was 2.5 we moved into this farmhouse and she constantly talked about a kids named Carter. She was really lonely...

Then at 3-4 she developed "Superhorse". He was a brown horse who had flames coming out of his hooves and wore a red cape. She even gave him a theme song (which we helped with in NO way):

    Marchin' in the gettybe
    Swingin' in the soup
    Hidin' in the creek
Is the really thing to do
    Oh! Superhorse!
    Superhorse!

    Crazy...

These stories are too funny! "Gotta respect The Word!"

When I was little my sisters and I all had one imaginary friend, Sally. She has straight blond hair, bangs, and she wore a red dress and black patent leather shoes. She was actually my older sister's friend first and my younger sister and I played with her too. I used to tell my mother I wanted bangs, dresses, and black patent leather shoes (mary janes) like Sally.

It's a little creepy how vividly I remember her!

Very interesting. Strange name for an imaginary friend. It's almost as if he's using the "word" to get out of stuff and it's like it's OK because HE is not the one being defiant.

I probably would count them both as discipline. Sorta "that's 1" and he says "but the word says I don't have to", you say "that's 2" circumvent it quickly....I don't know!! :hug99:

Hahah, "the Word"...wow...I have to admit that my 1st thought was he was going to a Christian day-care where he heard someone talking about "the Word (of God)", like saying something like, "You need to obey what the Word says" or something like that!! LOL!! This would make a great Reader Digest Story...lol...yes, you really do have to respect the Word.
