Okay, so my son just flipped out.

Jack only took one nap today. He is starting to protest the pm nap. Anyway, I figured they were tired so instead of going out to dinner like we usually do, I thought they might like going to the park instead. We picked up food from this little organic place near us and brought it with us. They had a blast playing on the swings, etc.. and, there were tons of kids there. Anyway, they usually go to bed around 7:30 but we thought they were so tired we would try a few minutes early. I went upstairs to change the sheets on their cribs while DH got their bottles ready and all of a sudden Jack lost it. I heard him start to scream. I came downstairs to help out (we are giving them the nighttime bottle until their drs. appt. next week after which we will drop that final bottle as well) and Jack never stoped screaming. He would not take his bottle so I carried him upstairs to change and put him to bed like I always do and he was flipping out. I finally just laid him on the floor next to me and let him scream, twist, flail, etc... He would sort of reach for me and if I went to hold him he would freak out even more. Finally he just seemed ready and I picked him up, managed to get his diaper changed and pjs on, and brush his teeth. I carried him into his room and he got all worked up again. They have both had colds the past week so he got all snotty and dripping and I decided against using the sucky thing to get his snot out and finally put him down all dripping and sweaty when I thought he was asleep. Sure enough he woke right up but I left the room and he calmed down after about 10 minutes or so.

My goodness did he flip out. I really hope that nothing was hurting him or anything but I could not tell that anything was wrong besides him just flipping out. If this is what happens when he is overtired I am going to start putting him to bed at 5pm :) (just kidding). Wow, I have never seen that before with either Jack or Lily and I am hoping it is not the start of some phase.....

Just had to share. I felt bad for the poor kid.

Sounds like he was just so overtired. We still go through this ocassionally and the only thing we can do is get thru the night routine asap and get them into bed. Maybe 6pm bedtime lol

My DS does that. He gets himself so worked up that nothing will calm him down. Once my DH almost took him to the ER because he was so out of control screaming. Glad it doesn't happen often. It is worse when he is sick or tired.

DS does the exact same thing. DD doesn't, but he requires a little more sleep and his temperment is totally different. He's the picky one. He will do this and I just have to let him have it out. I've learned. I always make a move to hold him to let him know I'm there if he wants me, but he never does during the fit. It's like he really just needs to get it out sometimes. The ped..says it's just his way of showing frustration and exhaustion since he doesn't talk enough to vent. I hope they trail off...these fits last only from 5 seconds to 3 or 4 minutes, but it feels like an eternity!!!

Oh I feel your pain. Meara does this when she is overtired. There is nothing we can do to help sooth her either and I hate watching her go through this. I hope Jack is like Meara and woke up all smiles this morning.

 I'm so sorry! That behavior is never fun. It does sound overtired, but if he's had a cold, I'd watch for an ear infection or something, too. The combo of both could definitely send him over the wall! Again...it's never fun, so
