[SIZE=12pt]Last week our school nurse (I'm a teacher) told us that a virus was going around called Fifth's Disease. A few kids had it. She told me to ask my Ob/GYN about it on Thurs. but I forgot. Today my principal comes down and pulls me out of giving a reading test to tell me that I need to go home. We have 20 cases of Fifth's disease. I guess this is suppose to be very harmful to pregnant women in the first trimester.

So I had to go get blood work done and I won't know tomorrow if I'm immune to this or not. So I'm out of school the rest of today and tomorrow. I wasn't worried about this last week. Now I am. All of the pregnant teacher were sent home. God, I hope nothing happens to my little peanut.

My gut would telll me you are probably immune. It is probably one of those things you have been exposed to either as a child or a teacher and you didn't even know it. I know I would be worried, but maybe try and just enjoy you day off instead!

It went around our school when I was pregnant too....I am a Spec. Ed. teacher and simply did not see my K-2 (where is was going around) kids until I got my blood work back (basically 1 day). I washed my hands well and my doc assured me if I worked around kids a lot I was already exposed....I was! No problems, but HOORAY for your princapal for being so proactive.

We had a student w/ CMV and I could not work with him when pregnant since I was NEGATIVE (never exposed), which is rare at my age (usually kids get exposed by age 6 or 7)- it is transmitted through saliva and other heavy secretions, but since he was a biter another teacher worked with him ( she had been exposed and was not having more children).

I hope all is well!!! Enjoy the day off.

I know you'll worry but my guess would be that you're immune due to prior exposure, especially since you are a teacher.

Let us know the results and I'll keep you and the bean in my thoughts!

I think it's awesome that they are being so proactive and sent all the pregnant teachers home. I hope you don't end up with it, but being an adult, I'm sure it's more unlikely than a child getting it.
