ok so i stepped on the scale this morning and :shok: !! I hadn't really gotten on the scale that much... i know on the 2nd of Sept when i went to my dr i was only 14w and i hadn't gained anything actually had lost 2 pounds, but i wasn't that hungry before... Well in that short time i have gained back those 2 and 7 more... I know twins your supposed to gain alot of weight early but it kinda makes you go "woah" when it actually happens. Not really worried about it but still i hadn't really seen the scale go up yet, until now!
:clapping: YAY for weight gain!! Your body is doing exactly what it should be doing :good: I do remember the first time getting on the scale though & it was surprising!! Congrats on your growing babies & tummy!
I had the same experience with my dr's appts. At one I hadn't gained a pound and at the next, I had gained about 8-9. I was shocked too, but glad that my body was responding to the needs of the babies. Try not to freak out too much about your weight. It is easy for me to say that, but your doctor will let you know if there is reason for concern! Congrats on those growing babies!!!
I about fell off the scale at the DR office, last week! I dont get on the scale at home, so I dont upset myself.. haha. So far I have gained 16 pounds... and ITS SHOWING!!! Im running out of pants to wear.
:clapping: Gaining weight is a GREAT thing! I never did weigh myself at home. It worked out better for me because if I gained 6lbs in a week I'd likely freak out. At least getting weighed every four sort of distributed the weight gain over four weeks. ardon: Silly, I know.
Gaining weight is a good thing, especailly early on. :good: I know it's shocking though when you step on the scale.
I can relate- I've gained TONS I actually weigh myself daily at home- if you have mono/di twins you should watch for large weight gains, but I don't look at the office- their scale is always higher than my home one...
I don't weigh myself at home either, but I'm pretty gi-normous. When I went in on Tuesday, I'd gained 24 pounds total. I feel like a beached whale. I miss my skinny jeans.
It was a real shock for me when I passed my husband on the scale! I am only 5' tall and he is average height. Everyone tells me that I am all belly and look great (feel like a whale though). I know it is best for the babies and that is my focus. Have you read Dr. Luke's book?
I am average sized and have gained about 20 lbs and am 27 weeks. I think thats a lot but I dont feel like I look any different except my belly. I guess two 2 lb babies, 2 placentas, 2 sacs of fluid and whatever else adds up to a lot.
good deal I lost and gained through my whole pregnancy and only gained 17 by 32 weeks but from 32-36 I gained 21 more with a total gain of 38 lbs but I left the hospital weighing 42 lbs lighter.
I can relate to scale shock. I don't have a scale at home, so at my last dr. appt. I found out that I had gained 10lbs. in a month! I about fell off the scale. It looks like it's all belly, but if I keep this up I'll have gained 50-60 lbs by the time I have my babies! I am hungry all the time.
QUOTE(azucena @ Sep 26 2008, 12:39 PM) I can relate to scale shock. I don't have a scale at home, so at my last dr. appt. I found out that I had gained 10lbs. in a month! I about fell off the scale. It looks like it's all belly, but if I keep this up I'll have gained 50-60 lbs by the time I have my babies! I am hungry all the time. I am hungry tons more then i was before so i know it is a good thing.... I am slightly worried about 50-60 lbs as well but i know it is good for the babies.. So i will do what it takes
Well I've gained 50 already and still have 2 more months to go! My dr said he isn't worried though because I started out a little underweight at 110 and I'm 5'8". I started off really slow though and posted on here that I was worried about the low gain, guess I caught up! Its funny though cause I get told all the time that I don't look like I'm having twins. Whatever. My dr says the babies are a week ahead in growth so no worries.
That sounds like a good amount of gain to me! My only reliable scale at home is a Tanita that is not recommended for use during pregnancy, so I get scale shock sometimes when I go to the OB's office, too. But I read Dr. Luke's book and am roughly trying to follow her suggestions. I was aiming for 20 lbs by 20 wks and then 24 lbs by 24 weeks. (I started out at 5'7" and 139 lbs.) The pattern I followed was this (each number is total weight gain, not just gain since the last appt) 12w: +2 lbs 16w: +12 lbs 20w: +20 lbs.--right on target! 24w: +27 lbs (going on vacation threw me off a little bit, but I'm only "off" by 3 lbs so not bad at all!) My goal for the pregnancy based on averaging Dr. Luke's suggestion and my OB's is to gain about 45 lbs. total. But if anything, I'd rather err on the side of gaining a little too much, if that means bigger, healthier babies at birth!
Do you ladies count from your original weight if you lost weight or losing weight then gaining back and more? I started out at 142, and lost weight...now I'm 151 as of two weeks ago... and I'm 23 weeks.
I have gained 50 lbs so far. It just doesn't seem like the weight gain is going to stop! I think it is mostly fluid though. My twin sister gained 50lbs in her singleton pregnancy and lost 25 lbs of fluid within two weeks. Hopefully more than half is fluid b/c I have a while to go. The babies are both growing fine and doing well and really that is all I am concerned about.
I lost 15 pounds in my first trimester and have only gained 7 of those back and I'm almost 23 weeks. I wish I could gain weight!
