Ashley has discovered the joy of being on her tummy 24/7!! They can both roll but she just really enjoys tummy time. The other night she rolled to her tummy and if I tried to flip her she pitched a fit! So we desided to leave her in God's hands and let her sleep like that all night (and she slept darn good!) Well last night she stayed on her side. My question is Is is okay to let her start sleepin on her tummy now? And what about Alyssa who doesnt like her tummy time as much but falls asleep much quicker while on tummy (discovered that during play time the other day) Should I put her on her tummy to go down for the night? Any and all advice welcomed!

I think as long as she is able to get herself back off her stomach and onto her back and is rolling around well, it should be ok. I still always put mine down on their back, but DS goes immediatly to side (or all over the place, really!) and DD ends up on her belly too. but i always put them down on their back.

If they can roll there is really nothing you can do to prevent them from being on their tummy. I never started them that way, now I do, but when they were younger I always put them on their back first and if they rolled over, they rolled over.

We have always slept our babies on their stomachs. They sleep much better, and their heads are now round.
The concern is SIDS. But SIDS can be prevented. By the way, SIDS is not suffocation.

If you really want to learn the cause and prevention of SIDS, go to www.thediaperlady.com/BabeSafe.htm

We bought 2 mattress covers, and never had another worry.

My DS has been on his tummy since he was 2 mos, he just had less spit up and less acid reflux issues (which he thankfully grew out of) He won' t sleep any other way (unless he falls asleep in the car) He will scream until we flip him. I remember though having a weeks worth of no sleep for me, worrying about SIDS but when we were children this was the recommendation and besides they can move their heads at this point anyway so I would just let her sleep and just make sure she doesn't have anything she could suffocate on in her crib like stuffed animals, etc. We use a light blanket and cover him from the waist down. Hey at least she's sleeping right? Good for her and she will probably learn to roll 1st b/c she is getting more tummytime this way, at least that 's what happened with my DS.

If my guys would sleep on their tummies I would let them without hesitation. I'm not scared of SIDS but I am scared of their flat spots and wish I didn't have to wake up several times a night to make sure they're still in their positioners facing the right way.

I would let them sleep on their tummies when they were rolling well.

All of my kids have slept on their belly since they could lift up their heads! They all have slept great!

One of mine always slept on her tummy or her side. She always put up a fuss when on her back. The other did not mind being on her back, but eventually she was able to roll over onto her tummy. Now she sleeps on her side.

Same here! My doctor said that once they are rolling around there really isn't much that you can do.

My twins have been rolling onto their tummies for the last month. Of course I can't stop them from doing it so I do occasionally find them on their tummies in the morning. If I see them on their tummies though before we go to bed, I still put them on their backs. The reason is they can roll back to tummy, but they still can't do tummy to back. Sometimes they will fall asleep on their tummies, but sometimes they do start crying so I flip them.
