I don't know what to do. I'm in tears in the middle of the night when I wake up. Yesterday, I did really good and didn't have to take any all day. I took one at 6 pm and was fine until I went to bed (although probably shouldn't have had garlic bread and lasagne for dinner...I'm sure that didn't help). About 11:30, when I laid down (was sitting up watching TV) I jus tstarted belching up acid and feeling like I wanted to vomit. I somehow fell asleep and woke up again (thinking it was morning) feeling miserable. I looked at the clock and it was only 1:45. I was seriously sitting in bed cryign. So, I went downstairs and took another Zantac (it just said no more than 2 in 24 hours) but I knew I wouldn't be able to take another until at least 6 pm TONIGHT. UGH! so, all day I've been suffering b/c I NEEDED it last night.

I started out at 27 weeks needing the Zantac 75 mg, then that quit. Then, I went to Zantac 100 mg at 30 weeks...and knock on wood that has worked for the past 5 weeks. But, I cannot continue being miserable like this for the next 4 weeks. I'm at my wits end with this acid reflux (no wonder babies with this are so miserable...ugh).

I'm going to ask my dr. on Tuesday at my apt. if there is anything else she can prescribe or that I can take...I can't handle these sleepless nights and feeling like I'm puking acid all of the time. I had none of this with the twins...YUCK!!!

I would ask your Dr if there is something else you can take, maybe prevacid? I used Zantac pretty sucessfully along with Gaviscon while waiting for it to kick in or if I had a bad bout at night.
bad mommy eating acidic tomato sauce, guess the baby didn't like it ;)
    hope you are better soon!

I know, I know...I need to quit eating the tomato based stuff. Do you know the leftovers that are sitting in my fridge....lasagne, chili and pizza. i called DH and it's ALL his. I'm having a turkey burger and baked chips for dinner. Sounds bland enough for me.

I know the other night my problem was the handful of mini-cadbury eggs that they had out at the grocery store when I was there...I had them RIGHT before I went to bed...I paid DEARLY for that!

At least last night (with my nice V-Day dinner), I got the light garlic bread (with less garlic butter adn it's only on one side) and ate a very small piece of lasagne....not bigger than a small spatula size. It doesn't matter...NOTHING helps. LOL!

Sorry...that sounds miserable. Hopefully your dr. knows of something else you can take. Although, I think this qualifies as a good enough excuse to eat ice cream (or WHATEVER doesn't bother you) for the last 4 weeks!

This is ONE of the reasons that I think Mother's Day should be once a week!!! :D I'm so sorry, I hope the doctor can help you feel better. Congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy!!! :hug99:

I used to drink a gallon of milk in a couple of days, along with about a loaf of bread AND Zantac 150 (OTC) at the end of my twin pregnancy.

Milk and bread helped get me thru till I could take my next Zantac pill. Fortunately it was really only for a couple weeks I had to take the Zantac (Prior to that milk kept everything at bay) but I would get up at least twice during the night to chug a glass of milk! LOL

Oh, I didn't know they had a 150 version! That makes my night! Milk hasn't really helped at all :(

I was on 150mg and it also stopped working the last month. Dr had me buy Walgreens version and take 2 because it is cheaper. I vomited every morning that last month until I delivered. I feel your pain and hope you can find something that works.

On a side note, I had breakfast with my twins this morning and they both stared at me while I ate my cereal. Finally my DD says, "Mom, you won't puke that up because the baby is out now. Right?" I had to laugh since I spent the first 16 weeks puking, then another month at Thanksgiving and then the last month. I never want to puke again!!!!!

I am weeks behind you and the 150's never worked for me AT ALL. So, I completely know how you feel. I am currently taking Pepcid AC 2x's a day and use Tums as filler in between. That still sometimes doesn't work. I can't snack, pretty much at all. I can only eat small meals and that is it. Even that sometimes doesn't work. Milk does NOT work for me either, I wish it did. Best of luck with the 150's. Hopefully it will carry you over until you deliver.

PS - They (well, Old Wives Tale) say that when you have acid reflux, your baby will have a lot of hair. All my children have had decent amounts of hair. Peytons being the longest so far (see my Peyton v-day pics in parents forum). Her relux was bad and this is worse. I swear I may be giving birth to a monkey in a few months!!!

I've always used the whole milk or try eating vanilla ice cream... and don't be eating tomato-based foods!! or chocolate!!! bad mommy!! That stuff will instantly get you going....no OJ either!! My kids were all born with some hair... my first and last girl had TONS of hair.... as you can see in my picture. But actually, I had a lot less heartburn with this latest baby than I did with the twins. So I don't know about the hair theory.

Heartburn was a wicked problem for me during my whole pregnancy!!!

I would switch to pepcid and see if that works and then in the night time (this will sound weird) keep some cinnamon gum by your bed and pop a piece in and start chewing away!!! It takes about 1 min. and you will be relief till whatever medicine starts to kick in!!! :hug99:

I suffer from GERD (which means: horrible non-pregnancy related constant reflux... I have clue how that gets turned into GERD though ;))!.
I take Omeprazol (I do not know what is in Zantax) and that helps... other more wivetaley kind of stuff but that has helped me (since I am lactose intolerant and milk just won't do) it to chew a handful fo almonds. Chew like a cow, for a good few minutes until it is a thick paste in your mouth and then swallow it as a whole. For me that does wonders. It seems to "brush" the acid away.

Sleep sitting upright (as much as you can), avoid all things that are acid, eat a light salad (without tomatoes) for dinner, avoid too muc liquid in the evnings, and soup at all times (salty and very easy to come up again), eat bananas and white toast... there isn't a lot of science behind this, but it helps me!
    And a big hug, Millie
