Just to add another thing to the many posts about dumb things people say to/about twins (b/c like everyone else, I get the fertility questions all the time)...have you had people pick favorites? Strangers, I mean. I was shopping with the babies and this woman with her daughter stopped to look at them. I had already had my fill of questions and comments (god bless you, you have your hands full, etc), and thanks to reading other posts in the past, I felt pretty prepared to answer...I even used the line about God already blessing us by giving us 2 thanks to someone here at TS, but this got me. The little girl (maybe 8 or 9) says to her mom, "Ooh, look at that one," pointing to my DS. Her mom says, "Oh, you like that one better? Me, too." Now I could let it slide from the kid, but what nerve for the mom to encourage it AND go along with it. I so wished she had another child with her so I could return the favor and choose the one I liked better  Can you imagine going up to a stranger with two or more kids of different ages and telling them which you liked best? All I can say is it's a good thing the twinkies are too little to understand. Do you ever get comments like that? I hope it won't happen when they are older, but I'm guessing this is just the painful beginning to people thinking it's ok to compare them...
I would have been outraged, and I am pretty sure that the Mom would have known it! :umm: I would have told her to teach her child some MANNERS! and though your children are young they still have feelings! Some PEOPLE!
I had to pop in here because I was sure I knew what this was about. This makes me SO sad. I hear comments all the time like "oh wow, she's cute, I mean, so is she, but look at that one". As if I would agree to one of mine being cuter. It breaks my heart!!
We get this all the time. I had a very similar incident with a small child, but the mother wasn't happy with her saying that. It doesn't bother me too much, except for the fact that 9 times out of 10 they say they like Mark better. I don't know what it is, but he charms people. We laugh about it, but it is soooo consistent. They will also talk to him, and smile at him more even when he's fussy or crying. I'm perplexed--my Mom says it's because he's smaller.
I know what you mean about all the comments people make. Although no one has ever picked a favorite. That would be so odd.. When Im out with all 4 of my children or even just two of them, regardless of which 2 it might be.. people always say "You must really have your hands full" or something like that, and it aggravates me to no end!! One time a friend of mine went to the store with me and she was standing with the children while I tried something on, and someone even said that to her! Or another thing I always get is "Are all of them yours?" People are so bold. <_<
oh the nerve... I could see excusing the child but for the mother to agree! Some adults still have some growing up to do. Sometimes I feel like people pay more attention to Hailey because she smiles at them faster than Hannah will.
You know I got that ALL the time with my 2. Jayden was born with a congenital heart defect and Jesse wasnt, so Jayden has always been smaller and thinner and just doesnt appear as healthy as Jesse so people just picked Jesse out to be the favorite because he was healthier looking. Of course I didnt want to have to go into the whole CHD story to try to explain why he wasnt as "pretty" as Jesse .. but it sure did annoy me !
My son is 8 and his classmates do that alot I dont care really but for the adult to do it too is terrible!
I had my sil say that one of the babies was "her favourite". gggrrrrr I don't blame you for being mad. Makes you wonder why we are always so polite to rude people... often we are just amazed at how rude they are we can't come back with a comment.
I've gotten that before, it seems that most people prefer Luke over Sophia. It upsets me but I can never think of a witty come back at the time. If this continues when they get older, I'm going to have to come up with something!
yes! I hate this they come up and say aww she is so cute....Well what about him? He is so cute too! Also with that being said, even people i know did it while i was in the hospital really upsets me.

Try " you know that they can understand what you are saying, right?" I've only used it once, but it worked wonders
Wow - that is some nerve! No one has ever said they like or the other better to me, but they do pay more attention to whichever baby gives the biggest smiles - lucky for me both babies take turns doing it. Last month ds got all the attention, this month is dd.
This happens to us also. Although it seems pretty even in terms of people aligning with one or the other. It makes me so upset also. It makes me want to just cuddle the one that didn't get "picked" that time. People are so insensitive sometimes.
I would have tempted to say "I liked the complete stranger who talked to me before you a lot better too." and see if she could figure that one out.
Oh that is really rude! I actually have that happen to me too. My DS is a lot more expressive so I think people gravitate toward him, so they are always like "they are precious, but him, he is just so cute!" Its like do you not think my DD is cute too. So rude. Its makes me feel bad for DD because DS always gets the attention.

A lot of times, people will coo over Roman and pretend Joel isn't there. I think it's the helmet, they don't know what it is, and they don't want to ask. I kind of force the issue though. I say, "brother here is a little shy, but he's got his eye on you" and then they look at him and make baby noises at him and he gives them one of his deep Joel looks, and they say "Wow he has beautiful eyes."
