OB & Peri fighting over me?

Last week I went to the peri (Yale) to get my 18 week Level II ultrasound, everything looked ok, and the peri said they want to see me every 2 weeks for fluid/growth check from here on out (mono-di twins).

Ok, sounds good, so I made the appt with the peri.

Today I had my regular appt with the OB, and they were grilling me. "Why are you going back to the peri every two weeks for ultra sounds? Why arent you doing those here? We can do those here? Did they say something was wrong? If they are doing these ultrasounds they will have to call and get the pre authorization from your insurance, or they wont get paid, because we arent doing it for them."

Ummm - ok? I told her (the nurse/OB ultra sound tech I think?) I had no idea...the peri told me "Come back every two weeks for u/s check", so you guys should talk to them.

I didnt feel special, like Oh, everyone wants to take care of me. I felt like they were pissed all this money was being given to the specialists office (Yale). She said to me that it just made no sense for me to drive to Yale (whole 15 minutes), when I could go to the OB office to get the US done.

Part of me agreed, then part of me thought "Is this just so they can get more money, or what?"

I saw the OB/doc, he said to go to my US with Yale next week, and OB/doc will work it all out. Then I have the Echo Cardiogram US at Yale in 3 weeks, and my OB set up an US at their office (cervix check) the day before that US.

OMG!?!?! Does this sound normal? I mean drs dont want to lose me as a patient I guess?
I do feel better having the "experts" Yale, looking at me rather then the dr's. Should I talk to the peris about this next week....see what they say? It just sounds like a bitter battle between them, and I am in the middle!!!

I got this strange feeling that they thought I was asking the specialists to do my ultrasounds, I dont really know what the deal was to be honest? It seemed very catty?? All I know is that I am only 19 weeks, they better get their SH*T together or this will be a long pregnancy for me.

Our O.B. after our first peri appt. was a bit uncomfortable as well. It just seemed like the two weren't on the same page. However, we told the O.B. that since we were seeing the peri every 3 weeks for U/S and that they did an O.B. appt following, that we didn't feel it was necessary to continue with reg. O.B. appts. as well. She agreed. We let her know it wasn't that we didn't like her (in fact she is our family doctor and we love her) but we felt more comfortable being taken care of by a specialist and having u/s done at the same place with same equiptment so there was no discrepancies. And knowing that the peri is reviewing every u/s makes us comfortable that if a problem were to arise it would be caught early.

Just go with what you feel is best for your situation and stand your ground. Don't let anyone pressure you into making a decision that you are not fully comfortable with.

I completely understand how you feel and wish there was more communication between the OB and Peri. THat being said, my OB has stressed to me that when I start going every 2 weeks and twice a week, this time it will be with the peri because they are the experts on the baby and that is who is being monitored very closely those last few weeks. I will also see my OB but she will not be doing the biophysical profiles, she is leaving that up to the other doctor. I think you need to talk with the doctor, not the u/s tech. Twin pregnancies are different.

I totally understand your situation. I am 25w6 days with twin boys and my reg ob adn my hr ob are not on the same page. It is so difficult because then you are left to make decision on who to trust and agree with. That is one of the reason I joined this site.

I see my reg ob once a month right now and the hr every two weeks at which time he does an internal and a external sono. The hr said I needed to be on bed rest and I was feeling fine so I called my reg ob and she said to keep working...who do you believe? I ended up listening to the hr risk cause if something happened I would never forgive myself.

You are def not the only one this is happening to. It is too bad that you are spending all this time going to apts and making sure you take care of yourself only to make your own decisions because the dr's can't agree.

    Good luck!

I can say this, the Peri office does have better equipment for when you need to get your scans. My OB at first was like let the Peris office do all your scans for this reason. But after my OB and my peri got into it for me wanting to be released from the hospital (long story in itself) I now go to my OB for BPP's(weekly)/cervical checks(every2weeks) and only to the peri for growth scans(once a month). Don't let it stress you out. It can seem like your in the middle being pulled 2 diffrent directions. Good luck!

Stick with your peri. I had mono-di boys who suffered from ttts and I was monitored twice a week! It was necessary and with mono-di pregnancies you should be seen by the experts. You don't want to take any chances.

Thanks guys. I was set back by the "drama". She kept saying "Did they find something wrong, why do THEY (peri) want to see you every two weeks? Is there something I am missing?

This was getting me nervous thinking...OMG, did they not tell me something? She kept saying, its just mono-di twins, nothing wrong with them.

I wanted to say "Nothing wrong YET". The peri said we want to keep a good eye on you, since things can change in a moments notice. This nurse/ultra sound tech (whoever she was, I had never seen her before...and she wasnt the nurse...cause I saw her doing rounds), she seemed like the peri was saying she wasnt good enough to do the ultrasounds.

I think that the specialists are MORE familiar with mono-di twins, their equipment is better. I trust my OB completely...but after that drama, I was set back.

I go to the peri next week for growth US, and I will talk to them, share my concerns, and that I do feel more comfortable with seeing them for Ultrasounds at LEAST once a month...or just continue the every 2 weeks.

They obviously told me to come back every 2 weeks for a reason. He said he had NO concerns at that moment, but monitoring these babies as much as possible, was the best "treatment" for everything right now.

Thanks SO much ladies. It felt good to hear you all say that I should stand my ground. :catfight:
