Well - my OB never mentioned when I would need to leave work, so I've just been planning on continuing until I either had issues or felt I couldn't do it anymore. So I went in today to pick up my disability paperwork to turn in for when I'll be out on maternity leave (from the time I deliver and for 3 months afterwards) and she wrote, "Must be completely done with work by 28 weeks" on it!

What a surprise! She had never mentioned that she was going to totally restrict me from work after 28 weeks! With my first (singleton), she didn't restrict me at all...in fact, I was working while having contractions and she had a pretty laid back attitude about it. I'm still so shocked!

I'm sure I'll be ready to be done in 4 weeks, but I'm still trying to get over the shock

I am surprised your Dr. had not mentioned it before. Back when I was around 12 weeks, my Dr. started warning me that 28 weeks was around the time they start considering bed rest. She has mentioned it twice since then as well.

I just talked to my Dr. last week about how long I can work, and she said we are going to play it by ear but she absolutely does not want me working after 28 weeks. 28 must be the magic number! I dont know about you, but I am soooo ready!!

Good for you! I am jealous.

It really puzzles me how different protocols for OBs can be. Mine just approved me traveling to California for a business trip next week at 27 weeks. It'll take at least 6 hours (by air) to get there not including a layover. Her only instructions were to get up and walk around once an hour during the flight - like my bladder gives me any other choice. ;)

I asked my peri about work last week and he said that 'things can start to get interesting around 28 weeks' but he doesn't issue a blanket work restriction. That said...I'm a little jealous!

I'm going to start working from home 1-2 days a week starting next week and hope that helps...

Yep, my doctor mentioned the 28-week mark to me as soon as we found out it was twins. He said that's the time when most twin moms hit the wall in terms of everything - discomfort, exhaustion, just everything. And he's mentioned it to me quite a few times since then as well. He hasn't told me that I will absolutely positively have to stop working at 28 weeks -- just that I'll probably want to cut back on most things at that point.

The worst part is just not knowing whether or not I'll really have to stop working then ... or if I can just cut back my hours ... or if I'll be OK to still work full-time. It's so hard to plan when you're dealing with an unpredictable event!

Chrsity - I am shocked they are letting you travel by air at 27 weeks!!! I wasn't even allowed to take a 2 1/2 hour car trip at 32 weeks!

I have not been taken off work, but I will start working from home full time starting next week.

My Dr would have taken me out of work at 26 weeks.

That surprises me too as I am 26 weeks and my Ob has never mentioned anything like that - I plan to work until 33 weeks.
Do you feel ready to stop work and did your Ob give you a reason?

Kim - Do you want to stop at 28 weeks? Honestly, I thought I would, but I have been working from home since about 20 weeks (my commute is about an hour) and since 28 weeks have been working 50%. That 50% has really helped me, but at 31 weeks, I am needing to nap and rest a lot more.Right now, I feel like I can continue working like this. But my doc hasn't made any blanket statement about me stopping completely.

my doc originally said that we'd play it by ear. i wanted to stop at 28 weeks, because i just couldn't take anymore. and two days before i had a doctor appointment where i was going to discuss this, i had contractions and had to call my doctor. she said, "you're done working as of right now!" so i stopped at 26 weeks.

I have found that a lot of doctors have a blanket 'off work by 28 weeks' standard. I am happy that mind did not. I worked up until the day before they were born. I would think that as long as you are doing well, it shouldn't be an issue. But, know that a lot of dr's have this 'rule.'

My first OB told me at 19 1/2 weeks that I had to stop working at 28 weeks-this was an hour after we found out we were having twins and was one of the first things she told me right after saying I could still go to Europe for a month 3 days later!

I'm a teacher and 28 weeks fell during the week before school started and all us teachers are at trainings and getting our rooms ready. I really wanted to start the year with my new students and establish my routine so they would be my students and not the substitute's. I had an emergency appt with another OB around 24-25 weeks and he was so much more positive about twin pregnancies. DH and I both liked him soooo much better and we switched. He took a wait and see approach to working and I ended up working until a day shy of 33 weeks due to PTL. I was feeling pretty done anyway.

My doctor told me "anything at all, anything and you're done working." I was not given a specific date or time. I ended up stopping early by choice. Enjoy your rest at 28 weeks ;).

My doctor had told me from the beginning that he wanted me off work @ 28 wks, so I let my job know that, but when 28 wks came he didn't tell me I had to go off. I am still working, light duty @ UPS, and I'm planning on going back to school next wk (I'm a bus driver). I think every situation is different, but he really thought that I would want to stop working @ 28wks and since I didn't mention it, he's not stopping me.
I also left my disability/FMLA paperwork to get filled out and they were going to fill it out for the delivery, not bedrest.

my peri told me 24 weeks and I told him he was nuts! I have a desk job and worked until 35w3 days - I delivered at 36 weeks....I would consider what type of job you have before taking a blanket "off work at 28 weeks"...if I had done that I would have had to go back to work after only 6 weeks instead of the full 12 because of FMLA - something else for you to think about - your employer may require you to come back earlier than your ready to....I'm glad I worked as long as I did because I need the time after more than I needed it before...

I am a little jealous as well. I am 30 weeks and my doctors made no indication that they would take me out of work at all. One of the doctors in the practice did mention that he recommends stopping work at 24 weeks but couldn't restrict me since he wasn't my regular OB. I guess my doctor is more laid back. I will probably work from home a couple of days a week beginning next week. I am beginning to get more tired during the day.

My OB never said anything about quitting work. I am an accountant and was pregnant during tax season. I just cut my hours back to 40 a week. I worked up till 35 wks 5 days, the day I delivered them. I even worked the whole day. LOL
