So I had my weekly appointment/NST today. My blood pressure is up, and they drew labs for preeclampsia and gave me the jug you have to pee in for 24 hours (yuck). I have been having a lot of problems lately with my blood pressure and my pelvis (have SPD and have to use a walker to get around). So, I guess this is the part I don't get...my OB has always told me that he would let me schedule my c-section at 37 weeks. He even said this as recently as last week. So we went to schedule it today, and he moved it to 38 weeks! I don't understand. I feel like I am more and more miserable and keep having complications (I am also on heparin for a blood clot in my leg), so I would think that I would be scheduled earlier not later -right?? I don't think I can make it another 5 weeks like this.

Just had to vent. I knew you all would understand.

Sorry you are feeling so bad. That is strange that all of a sudden he would change his mind about the c/s. Hang in there. :hug99:

Hugs! I so feel your pain!

I'd give them a call and ask to talk to the doc again, see what his rational is.

I know that this ended up being a big discussion for the timing of my section when I was admitted to the hospital for the blood clot in my leg.

One doc wanted to send me home on injectable heparin and have me deliver at 38 weeks (I was almost 36 weeks at the time) and the other docs in the practice didn't think that was reasonable, they said if any other twin mother came in in labor or was having any issues they'd deliver her then, that it was 'safe' so why end up potentially causing more issues? I was also having preeclampic signs. And the 24 hour urine was a pain too! They made me repeat it....didn't think that I'd really only pee'd 600ml in 24 hours...but I was!

Good luck, I'd give them a call!

I did end up having my section that week I was in the hospital, but I'm the only person I know (and I worked with a lot of folks on IV heparin when I worked med-surg in the hospital) whose clot actually worsened while on IV blood thinners, go figure...so the decision was made!

That sucks, i think that's really unfair. I'm sure your babies would be totally healthy at 37 weeks so it seems silly for him to do that. I would cause a stink and get him to change if it were me. You shouldn't have to go to it anymore than necessary.

Sorry your doc isn't sticking to what he said. Can you ask him about, and beg for him to go to 37 weeks?

I'd call and ask the reason too. I hope things are looking up ASAP!

I would definitely ask for a rationale behind his decision. I really hope you feel better soon.

If I had to guess, and bear with me...it is 4 am *lol*

I think they are probably scheduling for a non emergent, no complications delivery. Unfortunately pain is not a complication. However I would suspect that if there is continued difficulty with controlling your bp or is pre E is evident, that you will deliver sooner. Every day makes a huge difference right now.

Don't be surprised if they make you repeat the 24 hour urine in a few days to look for changes. (They may possibly even admit you for this and observation.)

Have you been given the steroid injections yet for lung development? If the test comes back with elevated protein, ask for it if it is not automatically suggested. The steroids will most likely increase any swelling that you have though.

I spent a few days in the hospital on observation at 34 weeks, had the injections and they were able to bring my bp far enough under control that the Dr was comfortable waiting one more week. I delivered at 35 weeks (even though, I was originally scheduled for 39 weeks)

The fact that they ordered the 24 hour test shows that they are being cautious and proactive and those are good signs and I won't be surprised if they deliver sooner than 38 so don't be discouraged. Your ob (and you) will work together for the safety of you and the babies. Sometimes it is a balancing game so to speak.

Thank you for your advice and support. I haven't gotten steroids yet (I have asked a few times when I had been in hospital for PTL, but for some reason my doctor has not wanted to give them to me). I will definitely ask again if my 24 hour protein comes back borderline or high.

I have been nervous most of the pregnancy because of the heparin (and I think my doctor is too). He keeps saying 'we dont' want you to go into labor" because he wants to be able to take me off the heparin in time so I won't have bleeding issues and be able to have spinal anesthesia (instead of general). That is another reason why I think it is weird that he moved it back. I have more of a chance of going into labor spontaneously that way than planned like he and I both want.

My DH thinks I need to talk to him again about moving the scheduled c-section up too (especially since last week he said he felt perfectly comfortable delivering them then and then went back on that word). So, I think on Monday when I go to turn in my jug, I am going to ask him then to find out his rationale.

    Thanks ladies!
