Do you give your little ones baby oatmeal you have to mix with formula or regular oatmeal? The girls are 9.5mos and I'm thinking I'm going to start giving them our oatmeal. I like to make it in the crock pot overnight. I could give the girls some if that before mix in the sugar and fruit.

I always used the baby oatmeal and mixed in fruit, mainly because it had less sugar and additives than the normal oatmeal, and it mixes up smoother. I use the Earth's Best Organic for them - they still get it at least once a day, mainly because they are still learning to use a spoon, and it sticks to the spoon well.

I did finally find a new brand of regular oatmeal that is 100% whole grain with little added preservatives in it and chunks of dried fruit. I plan to try it tomorrow and see what they think - it is definitely chunkier, so I'm not sure how they will do (one of our boys is sensitive to new textures, so that kind of thing is hit or miss for us).

I switched over to plain oats at about that age and would sometimes add in some fruit or yogurt. My boys never really liked the texture much though, so we usually just gave them cheerios or bran flakes instead.

We did both - baby oatmeal or millet with fruit puree or applesauce (they never liked it with milk of any kind, so I made it with hot water and a bit of rapeseed-oil) and our plain oatmeal which I make from oat flakse without any additives (watch the additives and sugar content for processed oatmeal). But as I like oatmeal pretty "raw" and chewy I have to cook two batches either way because they would not eat it my way. I think you will just have to try how they deal with the different texture.

I'll have to check out my oatmeal. I always use steel cut oats from Whole Foods or Kroger in the organic section. My favorite is making it in the crockpot overnight so it's ready by morning.
