I was just wondering when you can switch from the Gerber baby oatmeal to regular oatmeal? Max & Lily eat about a box every 1-1/2 weeks. I wouldn't mind so much, but it is very pricey compared to the regular oatmeal. I figure it will be when they are better eaters.

Gosh-I just did it! LOL! I don't know when though. I think probably around a year. We had stopped doing the infant oatmeal, as they didn't really eat it anyways. I think I started regular oatmeal when I wanted them to try to feed themselves with a spoon. Go ahead and try it!

I never fed gerber oatmeal. I always ground my oatmeal a bit finer in the coffee grinder or brown rice and made that into their cereal. I stopped doing that at about 10 months and went straight to regular oatmeal...usually mixed with some blended apricots or applesauce, now they love it with dried cherries or blueberries. I'd say you're just fine now.

I switched at 12 months or so. I had to do 1/2 and 1/2 for a few weeks to get them used to it.

We have oatmeal for breakfast once or twice a week now. We add a bit of brown sugar, flax seed meal, nuts, dried cranberries. It's delicious!

I think it was right around a year I switched to adult oatmeal, I always made it with milk and there was never any texture issues.

I started introducing regular oatmeal around 10.5 months, and they took to it well. So I finished my stash of baby oatmeal, that was it.

the difference is all the things that it is enriched w/, so i would just make sure that your kids are getting everything they need (particulary iron) from the rest of their diet before switching.... i'll try to remmeber to ask my teacher on friday to see what she recommends. we are still using it once/day.

Hmm I started giving my girls oatmeal probably around 9 months, trying it. They would only eat a little. Now I use instant oatmeal because it is quicker but they love it and gobble it up. I get the ones with fruit in it or the sugar free "sugar flavor" LOL

I always just cooked my own, mixed millet, barley, oats and now lentils together. for texture... I quit grinding it all up further several months ago, maybe at 10 months. for nutrition, I figure I'm getting good whole grains in their diet and our doctor never recommended it to us anyway.

We did it in with the other table foods so somewhere around a year. Mine hate it now though and I haven't figured a way around that yet.

I made the switch around a year with my oldest two, as we moved past "baby food." With the twins, I kept it around a bit longer because of the supplemental vitamins and iron. My DD has terrible food allergies and the nutritionist said keep giving it to her once a day as long as she would eat it... that ended up being until about 16 months! Then she started refusing it and I switched them both over to Irish oatmeal with applesauce and cinnamon mixed in. They love it and have this most mornings!

My little boy has been eating regular oatmeal since he was probably 8-9 mos old. He loves it and has gotten me into it. So the whole family eats oatmeal every morning, with the exception of the twins. My son was a good eater from day one though, so that may make a difference.

I always mashed up banana or mixed in some applesauce with his oatmeal to make it tasty. Sometimes he gets a little honey in it too! He loves it. I cook it from scratch with milk. It's much cheaper and healthier than the presweetened instant packets.
