Olivia NEVER took to rice cereal or oatmeal cereal. So, I went ahead and just did fruits and veggies with her. Well, about a week ago, I mixed a Tbsp of oatmeal cereal into the fruit (to get her the iron in the cereal), about 2 hours after that, she puked up everywhere...and all over her and me. I never gave her anymore after that.

Fast forward to today...I put about 1/2 Tbsp in her sweet potatos today b/c they were really runny. Agagin, about 1.5-2 hours later, she puked all over her bed, in her hair, all over her clothes, soaked through the seats, up her nose, in her ear. It was NASTY.

Do you think it's just coincidence, or could this be a upset stomach from the oatmeal cereal? She's had NO problems with the solids I've been giving her and she's had sweet potatoes before (without cereal) and been just fine. I hven't fed her anything differently than the oatmeal cereal.

Anyone else had issues with cereal doing this?

I was going to ask something similar. Both of the times that we've tried oatmeal, for about a week each time, one or the other of them (sometimes both) had diarrhea and bad diaper rash.

I figured oatmeal would be something low on the allergenic scale since it's one of the first things that babies start on. I'd love to hear what other people's experiences are.

yikes; oats can be an allergen-the wheat-can you try the other ones? barley, maybe the mix bannana/rice combo? i know the iron is what your aiming for-you can use iron vitamins (drops) ask your ped it sounds like a reaction-did she get hives or exzema afterwards? was she screaming in pain when she threw up? My friend's DD was allergic to the wheat but she broke out in hives--

I know we started out with Rice and then I moved on to oatmeal. The kids had bad nights (worse than normal) on those nights. So, we never really did oatmeal. They'd get their oatmeal around 6pm.

Oatmeal sent us to the pedi today. B has been much fussier than normal, got a nasty diaper rash on his boy parts and broke out in red spots this morning (after eating just a tiny bit last night). Needless to say we have seen the last of the oatmeal.

I haven't tried any other ones. I do have rice cereal that I could try. She didn't have any form of reaction other than throwing up. No hives, rash, eczema, etc. The first time, she threw up all over me with NO warning and it didn't seem to bother her at all. The second time, she did it in her sleep and I never heard a thing until she woke up and was covered in it...no crying, no sounds at all (I have a very sensitive baby monitor and NEVER heard anything).

Even if it isn't truly an allergy, oatmeal is a lot harder to digest than the rice cereal. Maybe just try mixing that in instead for the iron.
