Gosh, I feel like I'm posting constantly on here and could not get through life with twins without this site!

Anyhow, my daughter is having so much trouble pooping and having so much gas that she was screaming inconsolably. We tried a bunch of things but the pedi finally told us to put her on Nutrimagen, Allimentum or one of the other hypoallergenic formulas. We got some Nutrimagen and last night we tried it (1/2 nutrim and 1/2 her other formula) and she screamed like mad during the first 2 feedings of it. The 3rd feeding (I switched to all nutrim) was fine and the 4th feeding of it she cried a bit.

Has anyone had good experiences with this formula?

Also, I read online that Nutrimagen has a lot of sugar in it and that babies have trouble sleeping when they're taking it? Any thoughts?

    Thanks so much!

We used Alimentum for both of the boys and I can tell you that within about 24-48 hours they were different babies and much more content. I have never heard about the sugar and sleeping issues. :pardon:

we've done both alimentum and nutrimagen and i will say that out of the two nutrimagen works best and is what the boys are on now. they are very regular with their BM and sleep straight through the night, no problems and have a good nap schedule.

The formula has been a lifesaver for us. When we switched DS to Nutramigen, our pedi warned us that it might make his poop runny. It did. But his gut issues resolved within a day and his movements became better solidified over time. He is also a reflux baby and on Prevacid. Like PP I'd not heard of the sugar/sleeping issue. He seems to sleep okay. Maybe giving it more time with 100% Nutramigen will do the trick. We switched cold turkey and the difference was amazing. There may be a protein sensitivity involved and even half n' half may aggravate that sensitivity. Hope your daughter gets to feeling better.

It made DS a different baby. Sure he is still fussy at times but he got rid of his screaming gas pains and is WONDERFUL with that plus prevacid for his reflux. DD on the other hand, eh Alimentum works for her. I get Similac SUPER SUPER cheap so I just keep it that way because its so much cheaper than having BOTH on Nutrimagen

I have never heard that about the sugar. It does taste different, so it might take a few days for her to get used to that.

Both my boys are still on allimentum and after going through 6 different formulas this one was a god sent. Enfamil gental ease also worked well for our one son but then we changed them both to the same formula because it was just easier for me. My boys never had a problem sleeping while on it and the vomiting and bowel movements drastically improved! Here you can only use coupons for nutramigen so if they like it I would stick with that one so you can cut costs. Also contact the company and tell them you have twins and you should get double the coupons and some free samples. Best of luck

Nutramigen did wonders for my daughters. When I stopped breastfeeding, we had to move to hypoallergenic formula due to reflux and a suspected milk allergy. Regular formula caused them tons of pain (both milk based and soy), but within days of switching to Nutramigen, hey were sleeping well, playing happily, and the reflux symptoms died down.

It's expensive, but so worth it!

My daughter had problems pooping & was very gassy as well. Nutramigen worked wonders for her, after the first 2 bottles she started pooping and has been doing so with no problems ever since. She wasn't as gassy either after a few days. I don't know what we would have done if we didn't start using it.

absolute life saver for my one guy! He was a completely different baby! It did take him a few bottles, but i think it was adjusting to the taste!

Mine are mostly fed breast milk (either nurse or expressed) - but we have a milk protein problem and they were extremely gassy and fussy and just plain miserable. I have gone dairy free, but when I use formula (when supply is low or something) we started with Alimentum - not good. It smelled horrible and the girls absolutely HATED IT! So we moved to Nutrimagen - much better. Doesn't smell as bad and the taste is little more mild than Alimentum. My ped did suggest however, to put a drop of vanilla and a small pinch of sugar to help it taste more like breast milk and/or milk based formulas. That tid bit has made all the difference in the world. My one girl, Hannah, would not take formual at all until we tried this trick.

I have heard that sosmetimes insurance will pay for it if you get a script.

    Good luck.

We also switched to Alimentum for our little refluxer, and she was almost instantly a new kiddo on it. The zantac helped with her tummy to mouth issues, but she still had a lot of gas and cramps from her tummy downward. It was amazing how quickly it made such a huge difference.

I don't have experience with Nutramigen, though, and hadn't heard anything about the sugars.

Hope it works well for you! If not, try Alimentum!

I should also say that my ped is a real stickler for things like sugar and keeping kids off of it. I haven't heard about any sugar issues with Nutrimagen - but feel confident in saying that if there were a sugar issue with it, my ped woud not suggest it.
