I've been feeling very wasteful lately, as I've been using disposable nursing pads. I can't help but think that I'm just contributing to a landfill somewhere.

Has anyone used both disposable AND washable nursing pads? Does anyone like washable pads? I'd appreciate the help weighing pros and cons.

    THANKS!

I've never used nursing pads... yet. I'm sure someone here has some answers!

I have usually used disposable when out, washable when at home (including some I made myself from DH's old t-shirts. And some from my mil! :p ). I leak a lot for the first 3-4 months and I find washable ones don't always hold it--or by the time they do, I've got an awful lot of (very unnecessary!) padding in there. B) But they are more comfy against the skin, I think. You could try some small washcloths or something like that and see how it works without going out to buy a bunch of stuff.

I always seem to lose the washable ones! Don't know where they go! (I'll blame my "mumnesia") :D

I used disposable ones during the day when I was out of the house b/c they are thinner and didn't show under my clothes. I used the thicker cotton, washable ones around the house and at night b/c you could see the outline of them through my shirt!

I've tried washable and I'm always soaking through them and feel wet. I have to use the disposable ones or I'm miserable. Have you considered Lilypadz? www.lilypadz.com. They worked for me before I had the babies, but I don't think they'd do it for me with the amount of leaking I have now.

I use both. I think the washable cotton ones are most comfortable. But they don't contain a lot if I'm really leaking, and the outline shows through clothes if my top is at all snug. So I generally wear the washable ones night and weekends or if we go out. Sometimes in the morning I've soaked through a little, but I'm just at home so it's no big deal. I've been using the disposable lansinoh ones for wearing to work and going out. I've tried a few brands of disposables, and I think these show the least under my clothes, and they are comfortable. And I do wear them more than once if I'm pretty sure I didn't leak.

I use the gerber washable ones and absolutely love them! I have tried the disposable ones and just do not feel comfortable in them. I bought 3 boxes of reusables so I have a total of 9 pairs and that is enough for me and it only cost me about $12.00cdn

I have some washable hemp that I love!
I also use the Avent disposies. They are a tad thick and do show, but I would rather have a circle from a pad than a wet spot!

Thanks for all the input! I currently use the Medela disposables, and I like them. Also tried the Lansinoh, but they irritated a bit. I'm not sure that I absolutely HAVE to wear pads, but I've been known to leak a bit. I will certainly look into getting some washables.

    Thanks, ladies!
