nuchal fold measurements

Hi There-

I am wondering if nuchal fold measurements are taken at every ultrasound? I believe I see my HR Dr. taking these measurements every time and it is making me nervous. I asked him today if there is any sign on downs and he said it is hard to pick up on ultrasound. I did have the fold test and blood work in my frist trimester and every thing was normal.

I believe they only do this once, at the end of the 1st trimester if you do downs screening. However, they measure all sorts if different things along the way so maybe they're measuring something else? Drs have to tell you about flags/concerns etc (sometimes this raises worries when it's just not necessary) so if they're not saying anything, I would say take this as a good sign. Good luck!

 

They only measure it once as it has to be done at a specific time to get the best reading.

 

It only makes sense to measure the nuchal folds at certain times (maybe just one time) in a pregnancy, so your doctor is probably measuring something else. Why don't you ask what it is exactly that they're measuring...?

 

I also think that this is done only once at a specific date of pregnancy. I would ask your doctor what he is measuring at your next appt. But try not to worry, I agree that they have to tell you about any concerns they have so if he hasnt mentioned anything my guess is that everything is just fine. :good:

 

Thanks ladies. I know that I go to a good doctor but it is not easy to ask him questions so I try to limit them. I never know if Dr's are obligated to tell the patient unless they are pretty sure something is wrong! Thanks again!
