    Hi ladies,

Well on Sunday I started having lots of b/h contractions that did start to get painful with pinchy cramps in between them. I hydrated and waited it out. They went from 8 in one hour, to 6, to 4 then I fell asleep Sunday night. And my activity level was LOW,laying down most of the day.

So yesterday morning at 7am, I woke up with more contractions, still not significant enough of a pattern but I made the call to my ob. My first weekly NST was to be at 3pm...I went in at 12:30pm instead. I was having contractions, babies were fine though and doing just great :) No concerns there.

My ob did a manual exam and said that I was a finger tip dilated and 75% effaced. My contractions were not slowing down, so I had my first shot of terbutaline. They slowed down to 3 mild ones in an hour. The next hour, I had 3 mild ones as well and another shot of terbutaline. He did a cervical length u/s and THEN said my cervix hadnt changed and measured 3cm, nice and long. UG! All my labs and urine were fine as well. We were there from 12:30pm-6:30pm.

So we were sent home as there were NO cervical changes. I did however after the early manual exam have 2 small spots of red blood on the toilet tissue when I used the bathroom. NO mucous with it, so I knew it was just from the exam and Dr. Levine concurred.

NOW here is where I need your help/answers!! I got up to use the bathroom at 8am this morning and it was a LOT of clear/egg white consistency mucous with a LOT of maroon/brownish blood. (nothing bright red though) This was the most discharge I have had my whole pregnancy, so I know it must mean something. Could it just be residual blood from the manual exam yesterday? SO confused.

Called my OB and the nurse said, "well if you WANT you can go on up to L&D to be evaluated". IF I WANT??? Isnt that bloody show, doesnt it mean my cervix is changing, shouldnt I go? I have had 4 contractions in the last hour and before that I am having mild crampiness.

HOW could I go from a manual exam of a finger tip dilated and 75% effaced to a cervical u/s where my cervix is still measuring long at 3cm and no changes? Both babies are head down, upwards of 5lbs each and I am 33 weeks 2days.

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated. Thanks! xojillian

I would head to L&D just to be sure. You sound like you were definitely having contractions and he doesn't sound consistent with the cervix measurements. It's weird that you'd be so effaced one moment and then long the next but he very much could have been wrong the 1st time.

Being put on something to stop them already, and having this change - it may not mean much but it could mean something. I wouldn't chance it just because this isn't a normal pregnancy and things aren't going to be proceeding as a normal pregnancy would. It's all going to be different.

You've had kids before (i'm assuming), so you should know when something is up, if you feel like something is up - the worse that could happen is that you may be wrong... but I'd rather be wrong than not do anything.

I would go in and be checked out. Better to be checked out and them to say everything is fine.

Thanks Bernice :) I had the manual exam first where I was told I was a finger tip dilated and 75% effaced....then later I had the cervical length u/s that said I measured 3cm long.

I just had 4 contractions in an hour and crampy in between. So given everything, I think I will head over to L&D.

FYI, I had two scheduled c-sections with my first two children and have never been in labor before, had bloody show or any cervical changes with either pregnancy. I just packed my little bag and walked into L&D on time for my c-section.

SO this is pretty confusing and scary for me not knowing if things are "happening". The plus side....my favorite ob from the practice is at the hospital today :)

Will post more later :) Thanks Bernice for your reply! xojillian

well now the only change is that I am having pinchy kind of cramps....nothing severe, just like period cramps here and there. And when I just went to the bathroom, (sorry, hard not to sound gross while articulating this!) I had chunky mucous that was brownish/maroon.

Just called the nurse at my ob's office and waiting to hear back from the ob who is at L&D this afternoon. The nurse said it doesnt sound like my mucous plug or bloody show. (I think she is crazy) From what I have read it is text book! Dont you all think????

I saw my mucus plug with the last pregnancy - WATCH OUT -TMI - it looked like a 20 ft tall giant blew his bloody nose into a kleenex - so so so so so so nasty and tons and tons of the goo. I would think that you would definately know if that showed up. However, it could be part of the plug, maybe, as I know they can come out in chunks.

Hope you get a call back soon!

    Jillian,
Let us know how you and the babies are doing when you can.
I had no labor and eventually a c-section with my first and have not had any of these experiences, so I can not help you...sorry!
I'm curious, so I know what to look for, though.
    Take care,
    Erin

    Oh Jillian..........

Hoping for an update if any. Assuming you went to L&D and THAT is why we haven't heard anything.....

  10. Hi Jillian. I hope everything is okay. Could it have been the lubricant from the manual exam + spotting from the manual exam? The lubricant dries up a little bit before getting expelled. I had a discharge like that around 7 weeks, before it could have been "bloody show" but after a pap smear.

Jillian: That makes sense - honestly, my DD amniotic sac popped before I even recall seeing a mucous plug. I may have even not noticed when I went to the bathroom at some point because it was my 1st pregnancy and I had no idea what was what. I just got out of bed and bam, there it was.

Let us know how you are doing ok?

Hi guys, would have posted yesterday but didnt get a chance to go online. ALL is fine......as suspected it was just old blood from the manual exam and from the cervical u/s on Monday.

I was 99% sure it was bloody show/mucous plug yesterday! My ob checked me out yesterday afternoon and did another manual exam and another cervical length u/s and said things looked good, not significant enough of a change to cause bloody show/mucous plug.

I am however a finger tip dilated and starting to efface, not much to be worried about he said. I will be 34 weeks on Monday, which is the point they wont give you steroids or medication to stop contractions. I guess they will only give you IV fluids to see if hydration will stop the contractions. My ob thinks I will go another few weeks.

And of course baby Will and baby Lily are just fine. I have a growth scan on Monday with my peri, we will see what she has to say about all this excitement.

My ob was not concerned, told me everything was normal and no significant changes to worry about. He said to go home and keep growing these babies :)

Thanks for listening, the replies and the support. The next few weeks will be interesting I am sure! xojillian :)
