so, i've thought cam was ready for PT for a while, and finally decided to give it a go this weekend. he was very willing to wear underwear, but preferred not to have pants on over them. he did pretty well peeing on the potty, but never told me he had to go before hand. sometimes he would start to go, and then yell "I need pee pee on potty!!!!!" and we would run to the bathroom and he would finish on the potty. sometimes he would be wriggling or holding his penis so i would say "Cam, let's go potty you need to pee pee" and he would always say no - but i would say yes, you are holding your penis (or whatever he was doing) that tells mommy you need to go and then we would go into the bathroom and he would always go. so, all that is good. BUT - yesterday when i tried to get him to go sit on the potty before lunch he cried and said he wanted a diaper (which i let him have because he was going to wear one for nap anyway) and then pooped in it a while later - today we were outside playing and i, of course, made him wear pants - he peed while we were out there and never told me - i just noticed his pants were wet and then he put up a huge fuss about coming in to change because he didn't want to leave his toys - today while i was gettting lunch ready he was playing and pooped in his underwear - didn't say anything to me, i just smelled him and checked i'm thinking all this means he's not really ready and i should just continue to let him go whenever he wants/ is willing to, but no more underwear and try again in another month. or should i stick with it another day or two?
Ruth, that's pretty much how our potty training trial run went too. Bea did pretty good if she wasn't involved in something else. She would yell "Go potty!" and would go. But if she was involved in playing or once during a meal, she peed and then would tell me she needed clean underwear. I think Ainsley thought the goal was to go pick out clean underwear. She rarely initiated going to the potty. So for now, we are back in diapers and occasionally going potty. I'm not going to make a big deal about it.
I potty trained Bella in January..she was clearly ready before that, but we waited until after the craziness of the holidays to get her fully trained. This is how Cam was too (THE WAY YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CAM) when we first started. I kept trying and trying. He didn't seem to remember he had underwear on. He did better when he didn't have on any pants at all, but it was still too cold to let him go around the house without pants on. If we would do underwear, he would poop or pee in them, but sometimes go on potty. He would fight us at times. I just figured he wasn't ready. I was still letting him wear his diapers, but when I would notice he was going in them, or if I was taking Bella, I would take him too. I gave him the last couple months to get prepared, because I figured as soon as the weather warms up..we are going full force. Well, if you read my other post, out of the blue he got uP last Tuesday, put on underwear and has had them on ever since!!! If was like something clicked and he decided he was ready. I just gave him the last few months of preparation and talking about it...and didn't push too hard. BTW...didn't you go to Sesame Place last year??? Are you going this year? Would be great to see you guys again.
thanks for the confirmation. i'm going to try again with him in a month or so, and for now we'll just do morning, before nap and bedtime peeing on the potty like we've been doing since the new year. Awww...I wish you guys were going again. We were hoping to be more in the swing of things and really hang out with some TSers more this year since the twins will be older.
