My friend "Zantac" is NOT working anymore. I've been miserable again the past 2 days. Anytime I eat I feel gross and just sick feeling...night is SO much worse. Anytime I move I can feel the acid creep into my throat. I don't know what to do! I was taking the Zantac 2 times a day and it worked for almost 2 weeks. UGH, not anymore. I go to the OB on Monday, will have to see if there is another (better) alternative.
I've had horrible heartburn with both pregnancies (especially the twins) and all they would ever let me take is tums, rolaids and Zantac. I personally hate milk but they say that helps. I usually get heartburn if I wait too long to eat....if you are like me you could try eating more often. I don't know... I'm reaching here.....I just know its so miserable to have heartburn all the time. I feel for ya.
Oh Becky I am right there with ya! Zantac worked like a charm for my last pregnancy, but has let me down again. My OB told me I could take any of those Zantac (not sure what they are called) like drugs if needed. I just switched (about 3 days ago) to Pepcid AC and it actually works! Twice a day for that too. I was waking at night with puke in my mouth (sorry TMI!). I was not putting up with that for another 14 weeks. Ask your Dr first of course, but I know it is listed as OK on many websites. Oh, mine was so bad, even water would give me heartburn. I pretty much could not eat anything, at all. I just found on Dr. Spock that it is a class B drug (like Tylenol, Imodium, Reglan) here is the link.

I woke up 2 nights ago coughing and choking on the bile acid stuff in my mouth. SO gross!
:hug99: I am osrry. I dont have any advice but I remember what that felt like when I was pregnant with the twins. I hope you find relief again and it stays away the rest of your pregnancy!
yep I feel ya... I have had severe morning sickness through out my pregnancy... the acid just started, so far 2 tums have worked for me. I make sure I drink milk everyday as well... even though I am not a big milk drinker. It seems to help balance out the acid and the comment about not waiting to long to eat is true as well. My dr. said pepcid ac was fine also... if it gets worse I will probably switch to that. The only other thing I can suggest is a very bland diet. I hope the doc has some better solutions for you best wishes paige
Oh, and the old wives tale (if you have acid or heartburn, your child will be born with a lot of hair) holds true for me. Peyton had so much hair (and still does) it is unreal. I swear this one must be as hairy as a monkey, because the acid is so much worse (and I didn't even think that was possible).
My doctor just had me get pepcid- it has really helped. A little tip- if your drug coverage is pretty good- they can call in a prescription for the "over the counter" mg amount and you only have to pay your insurance co-pay; not the shelf price. Saved me a little bit, and with twins coming- every little bit helps!
Maybe Zantac took a vacation or something. I had been on it for the past month due to vomiting in the AM again. It worked for about a month and I was so happy. Last week, at 37 weeks it stopped working. So in addition to the end of pregnancy misery I am now vomiting every morning again. I feel your pain! Tracy
Papaya tablets are supposed to help. My friend took this when she was pregnant and had really bad heartburn. I have not been out the last couple of days and my husband has been out of town so I haven't tried it yet, but it is a natural option. I usually take a Zantac in the morning and a couple of Tums before bed. I started taking Zantac because my heartburn was making me throw up. Sometimes lately I get up in the middle of the night and have to take another Tums and I sleep with two pillows under my head now, that has helped some. I forgot to take my Zantac this morning so I took it this evening, but not in time, I was reminded of why I have been taking it, Yuke. I can take it up to twice a day but haven't done that as much. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. Jen
