We switched all the kids to cloth diapers because the girls had horrible diaper rashes that we just could not get rid of for anything. We had gotten a couple different prescription creams and powders. We tried every OTC cream we could. Nothing worked and that is why we switched to the CD. Well, the rashes went away-for a bit. Now every time Geneva poops her rash comes back full force. She is red every where, she sometimes bleeds and she just screams and screams and screams. I feel so bad for her, but I don't know what to do. I've tried taking any foods that may be acidic at all out of her diet, that didn't help. I have tried to go with upping how many bottles she has and getting rid of the solids and that didn't work for 2 reasons. 1) She was still get the horrible rash 2)She went nuts without the solids-which I don't blame her. I've called the doctor and they haven't suggested anything new.

So, I've narrowed it down to disposable diapers (and wipes-which we are in the process of switching to cloth) and her poop. I just don't know what to do for her now. This has been going on for MONTHS! I so frustrated with their ped for so many reasons. He is a great doctor and he has the most wonderful nurses but he does not seem to take any of my concerns for my children seriously. I am so sick of taking them in and calling all the time for nothing to happen. I'm just ready to move and find a new pedi. Anyway, I'm sort of digressing.

Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of this stinking rash for good-even when she poops??? TIA to anyone who can help.

Ronda, do you put something on her at every diaper change as a preventative? I would think that it is something in her diet if it's causing her to burn up that quick, and often. Is she having diarrhea?

We have been putting Boudreaux's Butt Paste on her at every change. I figure something in her diet too, I just can't figure out what!!?! No, she's not having diarrhea-her stools are almost always solid-not hard, but formed. ARGH!!

    Ronda,
We had the same problem with abigail's butt. She would get a really bad rash that would eventually bleed, and nothing we did changed it. We switched formula, we switched diapers, wipes, did it all...got some $$$ cream from the doctor..nothing worked. We finally moved up to the next size of diapers...we're currently in a 3, and wahla...she got all better. We use pampers. I called each of the diaper companies and asked them if they make diapers without all of the perfumes, dyes, etc, and all of the pampers brands had the least amounts. We also use old fashioned A&D ointment at every changing. Thankfully, we haven't had one rash since. YAY!!! Abbi sure appreciates it. Hope this helps, Steph

I would try Triple Paste Creme- it is OTC but you need to get it from the Pharmacy - they have the big jars behind the counter. It is about 30/jar but thick and the best I have tried and my pedi and hosptial recommened it.

Is it possible that it is a yeast infection? When the kids have gotten a really bad rash, one that just won't go away, I have used Lotrimin on it and it clears up. Also, the one thing that always gave Meghan a rash was spinach, I couldn't feed it to her as a baby.

the best thing I have found is mixing 1 part each of Desitin, Lotrimin and Bacitracin together and using it as a diaper rash ointment - it sounds like you have tried everything - I'll ask around and let you know if I hear any miracle cures-
that has to be so frustrating!

You sort of answered your own question though.....you said that everytime she poops, she gets a horrible rash. That could only be something in her poop (i.e. something she's eating) that her already sensitive little butt skin is extra sensitive too. I couldn't begin to tell you what though. Someone mentioned putting a protective coating of something on her bumm at each diaper change.....Once we got ours to where no one had a rash, we began just slopping vasoline all over their butt and up in their butt crack, etc. After awhile, it didn't take long at all because we were so familiar with the drill, but yes, just slop a big glob of it up in the crack of their bumm and the skin of their bumm. Totally protects them form their poop.

I've heard using oatmeal baths helps too. Cut off the foot of a nylon, add 2-3 tablespoons of regular oatmeal and tie in a knot. Swish it aroung her bath water til water looks milky - and bathe. It may help with the pain etc. for her. My day care also uses tea bags. I haven't asked heer how - but I'm assuming wet the bags and place them on her bumm??? Mine got bad rashes when daycare was feeding them pear/pineapple combo. I know you've taken out everything acidic. I also went up a diaper size when it seemed like they were getting frequent rashes. I live by Desitin. It seems to work like a charm for me. good luck. poor baby bum bums
