...is there anything I need to be aware of? I've heard people put pillows down? Do they really just fall out? oh my, a whole new level of worries...

did you lower the mattress ALL the way down to the bottom setting?

Berkley never ever tried to climb out and neither has Brandon, but Beau did as soon as he learned to stand.
He climbed out at 11 months :(
Now he has been living in a crib tent ever since!

All we did was lower the mattress all the way down. They still haven't tried to climb out!

Lower your crib mattress. That is what we did when Emilie and Trevor learned to stand in their crib. That was about 3 months ago. They have not tried to climb out yet and hopefully it will be awhile. My oldest never climbed out of her crib so I'm hoping these 2 follow her lead.

Amanda-I can't believe one of yours climbed out a 11 months. Holy smokes that is early. :icon_eek:

Also when ours first learn to stand that was the new game at nap and bedtime. They would immediately stand up and it took awhile for them to fall asleep because they liked this new game of theirs, they did we didn't. Eventually they will figure out how to get themselves down and then it won't be so much fun anymore. It's a whole new world.

Mine haven't tried to climb out thankfully. Just lower the crib mattress and you should be OK. Ainsley did the "I'm standing and can't get down" thing. I would repeatedly have to lay her back down. I did that for a couple days, then it was getting old and bedtime was dragging out, so I stopped responding and she figured it out. I don't think Bea did that.

We lowered the crib mattresses all the way down. I think maybe around the 15 month mark I am going to buy at least one crib tent, because I think Lily will be well on her way to figuring out how to climb out by then. :)

We did/do crib tents and I totally recommend them. It really helps for peace of mind. Pillows wouldn't do it for me. And besides, it keeps them from throwing their other stuff out too (that phase comes soon if it hasn't started already).

We were totaly proactive and already had them lowered - but I am really worried about him - I caught him tonight trying to lift one leg up....

Mine learned to stand up at 9 or 10 months and have not yet (at 16 months) tried to climb out. I was sure Amy would, because she's a bit of a climber anyway, but it just doesn't seem to occur to her. I am thinking of getting some crib tents just so they are already here when we need them. But other than that, I'm not going to worry about it till it happens.

We did also have a day or two with Sarah (but not with Amy) of "I'm standing and I can't get down." The first night I laid her down 3x. The second night I did it twice and then though, "You know, she can get down by herself -- she does it all the time in the living room" so I just waited her out. She wailed for about 15 minutes, then laid down and fell asleep, and that was the end of that.
