I'm sure I'll have a bizlillion questions, but for now:

Any of you have the Maximom carrier? I've been looking at the Bjorn Air carrier--because I live in Houston and it gets so hot here, teh Air carrier is supposed to have superior ventilation.

Anyone know how the Maximom carrier compares in terms of comfort, support and/or ventilation?

    TIA!

    I DO I DO
I have the Maximom BUT I don't know how it compares to the Bjorn....I live in Alabama where the humidity is killer, so I definitely understand that problem!
The Maximom has no ventilation and is padded...but I really think if you dress the babies accordingly you can still use the Maximom; if you think about it, if you're not using a carrier, and you end up toting them around..they're going to be hot up against you as well.
I love the Maximom because you can carry both at the same time (or not)...and there are a page full of different carry positions..My hubby and I even invented our own after we got the babies in the carriers and separated them..he had one and I had one..we wore them like slings around our neck and to the side..the babies went fast asleep and it helped to save our backs!
Of course, there are drawbacks as well...my boys are only 4 months old and I've had the carrier for about a month or so now...they can't use it facing front for very long since their necks don't hold up very well when they get tired, so they're typically in there facing me or in the side carry position we came up with...however, even with the padding the straps come up around the sides of their little heads too snug for me, and they don't like it either, so we use a burp cloth or receiving blanket to pad the area on the sides of their heads...(we generally put the blanket around the back of their heads and up both sides)..it helps the straps not to rub...this is a problem they will outgrow though.
The Maximom has padded drawstring legs which don't pinch or cause discomfort for the baby, which I looove! And the babies can "wear" the carrier unstrapped from the part that goes on you...you can put them in their carseats with it still on them (you'll need more slack though).
I have yet to use the other features; but supposedly you can strap them to a chair with it too! ha!
    I hope that helps!!

I actually don't have experience with either, but we have the Jeep carrier from BRU and we've actually loved it. It's very comfortable and SO much cheaper than the other brands. And by the way, I live in Houston too! Congratulations.

P.S. What part of Houston are you in? Sometimes people say they live in Houston but it's really Spring or League City. Just wondering.

I have the Bjorn Air carrier (two, in fact!), and it rocks! Love it. I have only heard bad things about the Maximom - hard to get in and out of, etc. Also, babies get heavy really quickly, and it won't be long before you don't want to wear two at once.

I have a regular Babybjorn and love it, we use it all the time. I also have a maxi mom and have never been able to use it. Every time i try the girls don't feel stable and it won't stay on my shoulders. I am very dissappointed with is, it was a huge waste of $80. If you want, i'll sell it to you for $50.

We had the Maximom and used it a lot in the beginning, separate and together. We didn't use it as much after 7 months, but occasionally we did but separately. My guys were really heavy!

I think either or would work.

we have 2 bjorns and LOVE them. i have no experience with the maximom, but am thinking that carrying 2 around when they get over 8 lbs each would not be too fun after awhile... i do also have 2 ring slings which were great when the girls were under 8 lbs, but now that they are bigger, i like the bjorn. when both girls were crying the other day and i was by myself, i did have 1 in the bjorn and 1 in the sling, which worked to calm them down but was not fun on my back (and my girls are 12 wks and 9 1/2 and 8.9 lbs). i don't know where you live, but try looking for "bjorns" or baby carriers on your local Craigslist. we got ours for less than $20 each, which is MUCH better than the $80 retail they go for new- and they are washable.

    Ladies,

    Thanks for all the input!

Serranoboys: I live in Pearland, so you're right, not Houston-proper. Though someday they might annex us :)

I think the advice about wearing both at the same time is probably pretty true. I'm 5'5" and 115 lbs pre-pregnancy (I won't gore you with the details of my current weight!!), so carrying around two babies probably would be pretty hard on me. I'm not planning on doing the "attachment" parenting thing--though admire those ladies that do--since I'll be returning to work.

I want to be able to carry them in a carrier (at least one) and since we're do in March, their first 7 months will be pretty hot here... I may look into the Jeep ones' since those sound like they might have some decent ventilation too.

    Thanks again!!

    Alechia

Oh, and Surfer: I check the Houston Craig's list weekly and haven't really found much so far (esp since I want two of a lot of things)!
