One of my boys was sick two days ago with what I'm thinking was a stomach bug. Never had a fever or anything ... He just ended up being "sick" three different times and had a really poor appetite yesterday as I pretty much expected. He's not showing any interest in eating this morning now either (he did eat a little bit of banana). This has turned into a head cold with him having a runny nose and sneezing all the time. I'm not expecting him to eat a whole bunch because I know when I'm sick sometimes I don't have an appetite.

And I know he's not going to starve himself and will eat when he's hungry but I'm worried that he's kind of scared to eat now because he threw up and had never done so before.

We're pushing the liquids and he does have wet diapers, produces tears and of course, snot so I don't think he's dehydrated right now.

When should I be concerned with him not eating a well balanced meal? And how can I turn meal time into a positive thing for him again if it is that he's scared to eat?

Stomach bugs suck! I hope your guy is feeling better now. I would just make sure he's got plenty of liquids, and don't push foods. He'll eat when he's hungry. Keep offering tempting foods that are not too rich or hard on the stomach and he'll eat when he's feeling better. Chicken noodle soup is really easy on the tummy; I add extra veggies and cooked noodles to a can, strain out the broth, and feed them the solids. They love it!

You may also want to stay away from serving him the foods he threw up. Sometimes just the smell of it can turn you off after you've been sick.

I wouldn't worry about any kind of well-balanced anything...just start off with some easy soup or crackers until he gets his appetite back and feels like eating.

I agree just push the water or milk, maybe even some pediasure. Poor guy, I hope he's feeling better soon!
