Okay - they are officially over 17 months...they have been standing, pulling up, crawling and cruising around furniture for more than 3 months, they are just starting to push a walker or chair on their own - but will not hold my hands to walk (but they do for their babysitter?!?) If I pull a chair around and they hold on they will walk for an hour...They don't stand on their own and won't even attempt to walk between my husband and I...I am sooooo frustrated...I hope and pray every day that we'll advance just a little bit more...but they seem completely happy at doing their speed-wobble crawling...

I'm just ranting and know very well that I have to be patient and that they will advance at their own pace etc....I'm just going crazy carrying around 31 lbs. boys!!! ARGH!!!

My DD took her first solo steps at 17 months, and became an official walker at 20 months (right before Christmas). It will happen, it's hard to wait, I know! Everything they are doing is great and will lead up to walking when they are ready.

It is hard to be patient, but it will happen. And when it does, things get pretty crazy! But fun!

    I agree.

Though I can understand your frustration, you have some big boys there! Hang in there momma, and come on here and rant away. :hug99:

Our boys were in physical therapy for awhile, and their physical therapist gave us a lot of insight on physical milestones. Our last appointment with her was when Porter was just learning to crawl and hadn't yet shown any interest in pulling up or standing. She said to let him crawl and try our hardest to resist rushing him to stand and walk. She said parents tend to be so excited about walking, yet crawling is so important for their physical development that the longer he crawls, the better. So the quicker he walks, the less he crawls, and she didn't want us to encourage that.

Also, my mom was a preschool and kindergarten teacher, and when they had kids who skipped crawling and went straight to walking, they actually had to teach them to crawl years later because they didn't have the coordination that you develop by crawling.

Obviously at 17 months, you're ready for them to walk, and they've had plenty of practice crawling......BUT I'm just trying to give you something positive to see in this. All of that crawling is very, very good for them!!! They'll walk when they're ready, but what they're doing in the meantime is very valuable also.

As long as they are moble, they will be fine. My friend didn't have either one of her singletons walk until they were 18 month. Please remember that the range of normal is 12-18 months, which means that most kids walk in that range. Also, if your boys are already 31 lbs. it may just be harder for them to get up and moving, but it sounds like they are well on their way--they will probably skip walking and go right to running!
