My Ob said everything was well; the girls heartbeats are nice and strong; he wants to do a blood test for my recurring UTI's in case there is something else there-cramping is totally normal whew-even the crouch pain :giggle:
He is concerned about the u/s; i have to have another u/s to see if there is 2 membranes? i forget the word he used; it means the difference between a risky pg and a low risk one-I wont be able to deliver at my hospital and i will be referred to a high risk peri-
So the scary thing is when i got home there was a message from my GP's office saying they need another u/s to check something is wrong with one of the twins:( I called back and they are closed-so i wont know what she means until tom morning! I called back my OB and asked if they callled the GP's office and she was referring to the membranes but she didnt call- -not what u want to hear:( i dont want to stress but how can i not now? He said the u/s looked good! what do i i think? :freakout: if u can say a little prayer by girls are ok and its a simple thing they just need to check.

That totally stinks to get a message like that and then to call and have them closed… I too would worry even if I had just walked out of a good OB appointment… BUT that’s because we are pregnant and along with big bellies worry comes with the territory… try to remember the good your ob said (focus on that) until you get a hold of them… I’m wondering why they just didn’t tell you to call back… mine always does… good or bad…. I’m getting mad that they left that message for you  …

I swear that the nurses or receptionists that call DON'T THINK. I got a call like that when I was about 16 weeks along and I freaked. I told my doctor about it at my next appointment and he was pretty mad about it.

They don't understand that we don't go through this everyday. Try not to get yourself worked up. Sorry that you are dealing with the same kind of anxiety I had to deal with. It's no fun.

It is great that the babies heartbeats are strong and the OB said everything was ok. It is hard not to get stressed out when your babies are involved, hang in there and you should be able to find out tomorrow when they open. I will be praying for you and your babies.

When do you go for the ultrasound? Sorry the Office staff are scaring you like that! Make sure that they take time to explain things to you so that you know what's going on and can have peace of mind :)

Cherie, I think that if you have both babies in one sack you are a candidate for TTTS. (See the Health forum for extensive info!) It sounds precautionary. I hope that's all it is!! :hug99:

i dont think its TTs because they both have thier own placenta and sacs? i think he wants to know is there "peak" Dichorionic twins - the lambda sign
If the babies have separate placentas, each will have an amnion and a chorion, so the membranes between them will be four layers thick and easy to see. It will be obvious that there are two separate placentas if one is on the front wall and one on the back wall of the uterus but if they are close together, they may look like just one placenta. In this case, a triangular shape where the membranes meet the two placentas will be seen on scan (the lambda sign). " The tech at the 3d u/s told and showed us the two seperate sacs and each had thier own placenta:) ---

Acutally, if the babies are in one sac it they are mo-mo twins (this is dangerous for their cords to get entangled). There is a chance for TTTS with that, but the biggest thing is if there is one placenta for TTTS. They will monitor your babies fluid sacs if they think it could possibly be this. If your doctor thinks it may be TTTS please pm me and I'll share my experience with you. There are two great doctors who specialize in this and we were fortunate enough to live in the town where one of them is based. We did not develop this disease, but we went through 3 months of fear of it.

Megan there is no TTS if they are in 2 sacs and 2 placenta's right?

I think that's right, although I don't see what the Lamba triangle would raise any red flags. I seem to recall that by 22 weeks, those things are pretty hard to spot anyway.
I'm sorry they've got you stressed out. Let us know when your next us is!

My OB and I were talking about this the other day. I can't remember exactly how the conversation went, but you can have "big twin-little twin" placenta issues with 2 sacs and placentas depending on where the cord insertion/placenta sites are or something? I wish I remember exactly how he said it! I don't know if it is technically called TTTS or not with 2 sacs and 2 placentas, but there is something similar that can happen. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Cherie- not trying to worry you at all, but your question made me think of this.

My twins had one placenta and a teeny tiny very thin membrane separating them. This membrane was the cause of MANY u/s's because it can be very difficult to spot, especially the farther along the pregnancy is. That is when the concern is for mono mono (one placenta, one sac)

Mono di (one placenta, two sacs, possibly with thin wavy membrane) can be higher risk due to possibility of TTTS. I had an u/s every 2 to 3 weeks for monitoring to check for this.

Both of these above are with ID twins.

Di-Di (2 placentas, 2 sacs) can be either ID or fraternal. And yes, sometimes the placentas will attach side by side or even fuse together. Growth may be obviously different in fraternal twins since they have different genetic make up. Normally the only increased risk with this type of pregnancy is the fact that it IS still a multiple pregnancy and the Dr will follow both babies to make sure that they are growing on their own curve.

I want to chime in with the others to say that I despise when a nurse or receptionist will call and word something poorly like that. As mother's it doesn't take much to make us worry.

    Cherie,

I am sure all is right. You know if you do end up seeing a peri you will likely get U/S at every appointment. I did! :) Ihave about 50 pics of each of mine excluding the 3d/4d ones.

If he is concerned about wether a membrane seperates them then he is not sure if they ar ein 2 sacs or not. I think they are confusing you and you really need not to worry. 2 strong hb's is what you should be looking at right now.

Stop worrying and drink some boost. :)

You are almost at the magical 24 weeks.

My girls are di/di twins and the concern w/ mine was that baby A had low fluid and baby B was (at 30wks) much larger - it of course was not TTTS but it was enough concern for them to place me on bedrest and start twice weekly visits.
my baby A (Addison) also was very lethargic in the womb - they had to wake her up at each visit - but now that I know her - she is a pretty laid back kiddo!!
