I know when a baby has an ear infection if you lay them down it can bother their ears and they get upset. What about for teething? Can they do the same thing? Allie has a cold. Not bad. Just some congestion. We've all had it in the house. The twins are the last to get it. Allie gets so upset when you put her down at nap or nighttime. She rarely would put up a fight. I usually just stick her paci and cover her with a blankie (which I go in and remove once she's asleep) and she's down. Now it's crying crying and more crying. First thing that comes to mind is ear infection. Sadly I can't have her checked today because we're getting a bunch of snow and it's so bad out right now. Totally not safe. They're telling people to stay home. Even though I think it could be her ears I am wondering if it could all be teething too. Her bottom gums are very red. You can't see the actual tooth yet but it's obvious it's ready to pop through soon. I can almost see the tooth under the gum. So I know it's close. My other kids never had issues with teething so I'm clueless but could all this be teething too? I plan to call the pedi in the morning and getting her in but in the mean time just keep her comfy with some tylenol. I put her in the swing for her nap which she doesn't usually sleep in and she still fussed for a while. Oh and refuses to take a paci which before she loved. Just curious what everyone thinks.

If it hurts her to lay donw, the crying, I would say it's ears and not teeth. The teeth are probably not helping her, but cuting her front teeth shouldnt cause pain when she lays down.

Its hard to tell. I bet she is teething. But I am not sure if she has ear infection or not.does she has fever? If not, than she might not have ear infection.my nephew got one when he was 6 months, he cried for good 3 hours and got fever. Some kids are teething so badly. After tylenol, she still feels uncomfortable and cries so much. I'd take her in regardless of the snow.

Another thought, because its painful so she doesn't want to take paci. And she doesn't know how to calm down without it.the pain could be teething or ear infection as well.sorry I might not be helpful. Hope she feels better soon!

It could be teething, and it also could be the congestion from the cold. Usually when they lay down, the congestion gets worse. Have you tried cleaning her nose with saline before you put her down, and propping up the bed? You could also try a bit of tylenol for the teething.

I totally forgot. Yesterday she did have a low grade fever. I never took her exact temp because all we have is rectal. But I can totally tell when the kids have a real fever. She was warm but never burning up so I knew it wasn't high. Last week Maddie was warm like that too and then the next day fine. So Allie did the same thing yesterday. I'm leaning towards the ears too. I am going to make an appt first thing tomorrow. There's just no way to head out today. It's totally not safe. We could all end up in the ER. I'm going to keep her more upright today. I can have her nap/sleep in the swing. She did take a short nap (usually they both sleep like three hours in the morning though) and now she's more happy. I'm assuming cause the tylenol kicked in. Poor baby.

Oh and I should add a couple of my other kids did have low grade fevers when they were teething too. But the logical side of me is still leaning towards an ear infection.

If Tylenol isn't helping, perhaps try baby ibuprofen. When she got her first teeth, my twin A had all of the classic signs of an ear ache. Lay her down at night, and she would scream, although she could sleep inclined in our arms. When she did sleep, it was fitful and she woke constantly. She also had a low grade fever. She also pulled and rubbed her ears. When I called our peditrician's office and described her symptoms, the FNP said she was sure it was an ear infection and to come on in. HOWEVER, when we got there, the doc looked in her ears and saw nothing. Her first question was, was she teething? I said yes, but indicated that she was taking tylenol. My doc said tylenol doesn't work for all kids. The ibuprofen helped, but it didn't completely make it better. A's teething was something we just had to survive.

Also, the runny nose may not be a cold. Twin A's nose was snotty and running and the doc told us that was a side effect of the inflamation from the teeth.

What's funny, is twin B cut four teeth within five days of each other and she barely made a peep.

Good luck. Teething sucks for all involved. I particularly feel your pain as A and B are now both cutting their cuspids! Seriously! 20+ teeth in two babies who are almost 9 months old. Wild.
