Not Sure If Identical

I know this question has been asked a million times before, but I am going to ask it again. When my boys were first born, they seemed to be fraternal in looks, and we were unable to determine from sonograms if there was one placenta or two fused ones. But dh and I assumed they were not identical just because they did not seem to look very much alike. However, as they get a little older they really seem to look a lot alike, so we are wanting to get a DNA test done. I know DNA Solutions is frequently recommended on here and I will look into them, but I was wondering what other avenues, if any , you all ahve used to determine if your twins are identical or not?

You should post a pic here - we always seem to get it right!

An easy test would be if they have different blood types. Might be in their medical records.

We were gonna get our guys tested, but when they were born the hospital did a blood test and they have different blood-types. Easy-peasy!

If you are a patient person, you can wait to see if their eye colors change. It usually happens before 15 months. Mine still had the same blue eyes then and I decided to test. I'm not that patient when it comes to things like that but DH was fighting getting the test. I got some $ for Christmas and did it w/out asking.

My vote is identical!!! They are so handsome! The only difference I see is their head shape. That's what is different on my boys as well...from positions in the womb.

Thanks! :) Yes. Aiden (on right) was head down and pretty low the whole pregnancy and actually was born with a place on his cheek they said was from pressing on a bone in my pelvis, while Noah was breech until the very end.

LOLOL..., once again, the one w/ remarkably MORE hair was .... head down.. I guess it's another coincidence but.. crazy!

I dont know what I think. Tough one! They're still soooo little!! (and cute!)

Do you know if it was one placenta or 2? Can you call and ask someone??

I honestly have no idea. Do you have trouble telling them apart, ever??

    They are such cuties!! :)
The first picture my immediate impression was ID, but then the 2nd one threw me. Then in the 3rd they look more identical than fraternal, but still not sure. I think you're going to have to break down and buy the test. I've heard on here that dna solutions is only $99 and to me that is worth every penny! This is a question you will get all the time! You will all be happy to know with certainty! Good luck!

I don't think they're identical, or if by chance they are I think the egg split very late, if that makes any sense. This is a tough one and I think you'll have to do the DNA testing to know for sure.
Do you ever have trouble telling them apart?

I think they look ID, but I would test just to be on the safe side. Cute boys!

We can tell them apart but the hair difference makes it easy. They did not really look so much alike when they were littler because Noah's face was thinner, but he has started filling out more and they look much more alike. Sometimes they are both looking at me and have the exact same expression, they arch their eyebrows identically...it is hard to tell who is who in a picture sometimes when the hair is not so obvious. I really go back and forth on it, more now than when they were newborn.
I will see if I can get an u/s picture posted later today...I am NAKing right now.

Hmm ... to me they look ID in the first pic but not quite as much in the other two. Definitely get a DNA test! Or as someone else suggested, try to find out their blood type first.

We used Proactive Genetics as well. When our girls were born, they told us that they were probably fraternal since there were two sacs and two placentas.
We were so excited to see that all the genetic markers matched!

    I say ID, too.
My guys were absolutely di/di but are identical. We did a DNA test as they got older too (Proactive Genetics)! From what I have read if the egg splits days 1-2 you get two completely separate pregnancies like fraternal twins but with the same DNA. If the egg splits late you get mirror twins (because the egg has already assigned L and R sides) and if it splits REALLY late you get Siamese twins!
Anyway...with mine...I can say each feature is the same even if the whole face looks a little different. One of mine is about 10% bigger, too!
It's fun to know for sure...even if it isn't really all that important.

I'd say ID. My guys look quite different for the first few months too. If they are ID they will continue to look more a like as they get older (usually). It's easier to tell after 6 months.

I didn't know that was common. My baby A had way more hair too. I wonder why that is?

Just jumping in because I had a question and figured I'd add it to an already active thread...

If there is a question as to whether single placenta or fused placenta, is it not obvious after babies are born upon examination of the placenta and chorionic sac(s)???? If we KNOW they each have their own amniotic sac, those sacs *should* be within ONE chorionic sac if its a single placenta and there would be TWO chorionic sacs if it was fused.............not??????????????

I'm racking my brain trying to remember what my other children's placenta's looked like sac-wise....

Totally agree with this. I say ID, and as my boys got older (di/di) they appeared to look more alike and the kicker was that they both have the same shade of green eyes. I haven't tested mine but probably will within the next year.
