Claire will not pick up any food and put it in her mouth to eat it. Instead she throws it to the ground. This includes puffies, toast, cereal, etc... I don't know what to do about it. She should be picking foods up with her fingers and eating it by now. It is so hard to watch Carlie do all of the stuff she is supposed to do, and Claire refuses.

    Any suggestions on this one?

    TIA

Has she ever picked up foods to self feed? If it's something new, I would consider it a phase. If she never has, I think I would call the pedi to make sure there isn't some sort of developmental delay that maybe she would need therapy for.

One of my girls did prefer to be fed over self-feeding for a very long time. It was definitely a frustrating phase.

This was my thought as well! I would check that out!

What happens when you guide her hand to her mouth? Does she eat normally when YOU feed her?

If I guide her hand, she will do it and not pull away. She is already seeing an OT and will be evaluated for PT tomorrow. So I will bring it up this week. Thanks!

We're currently in EI for speech and I am amazed at some of the hints they have been giving us. I can only imagine you would get the same from the therapists she is seeing, so definitely make sure to bring it up.

Keep us posted if you can.

If you give her a treat or something she loves will she do it then? It might be worth trying somthing she doesn't get all the time that would be easy to pick up to try to motivate practice.
