    Hey ladies,

We did the March of Dimes walk this weekend. It was great. We walked about half of the 8 miles with the kids.

Well, in the end they had all the parents there with preemies come on stage to tell their stories. Well, our girls were born at 36 weeks. One was like a tiny newborn, but the other really was a preemie. She had RDS, feeding issues, and they thought she had sepsis. We spent time in NICU and I had to leave her at the hospital when I went home. I know she was a near full term preemie, but she was still a preemie.

Afterwards I had a mom tell me that I shouldn't have gone up there. What was I thinking taking my healthy babies up there when people had 25 weekers up there (there was a variety of babies up there - ours were the latest gestation - but they were still preemies). I didn't even know what to say. A client of my who was near me was the one that responded with, "Even though they were later she still had a baby with RDS because she was a preemie." I was so upset. I know how lucky I was to carry them that far! I was on bedrest for 10 weeks! I was just floored because something like the March of Dimes walk should be when we all band together - not attack eachother!

    Ugh.

    ANgel,
I am sorry that woman did that to you. A premie is ANYONE born before 37-weeks gestation. 36 weeks, 5 days? Premie. You had every right to be on that stage, and NOBODY has a right to take away your babies accomplishments. Just ignore that rude woman -- she is probably just jealous. I assume according to her my just short of 29 weekers (28 weeks, 6 days, 12 hours) wouldn't have been good enough, even though my smaller (donor) twin was one of the sickest babies I have ever seen in my life and I'm a NICU nurse! That is really sad that she would even think that, much less say that!

I wouldn't worry about her. You were supporting a great cause and if she can't appreciate that and the experience you went through with your baby, then she's a little narrow-minded IMO. Sounds like you had every right to be there!

OMG! How rude and insensitive! And why would it even matter to her? How weird. I am so sorry that she treated you that way. :hug99:

tell her to stick it - I was specifically ASKED by MoD to speak at our Hospital's annual meeting in April and I had 36 weekers also - and I felt funny going because my kids weren't all that premature!

Well that was pretty rude of her. A preemie is a preemie and anything before 37 weeks is considered premature. Just ignore her
