I have to be quick as it's bedtime and I should be in there right now, but after our VERY frustrating day, I need to get some input, feedback, and hopefully some helpful advice!
So, Timmy has been going pee on the potty for the last week! Really, he's a pro, I'm so proud! Now, the pooping...that's another story. He's just holding it and holding it, and then i know it's uncomfortable...maybe even painful...so then he just cries, and won't sit on the potty, but even cries and whines when we put a diaper on him and i tell him to just go.
He finally went tonight in his diaper, after not going since Friday afternoon...and he cried and cried, although it really didn't seem that hard. I'm sure he feels better now, but I really hope this isn't going to be the new pattern. Him not pooping for over a day until he's so miserable (making us miserable as well), and then finally getting it out!
Is there a better way to handle this? Should I be adding some over the counter laxative to help him along? I've heard of moms using Miralax... I just don't know what do to. He just gets so upset about it. He just doesn't want to poop!
    Thanks for any advice!

Jazzy does this. I give her fleet chewables or the dissolving strip if it gets beyond 3 or 4 days. They are more easy on the stomach than some of the others but take longer to act. Chewables is 2-6 hours and the dissolving is 4-12 i think

I went through this with one of my daughters and it was a long time before we got her going regular again after she actually started to poop on the potty. We started out with prune juice and upped her fiber intake. After that didn't really work we got prescribed miralax. It helped a lot and got her going about every 2 or 3 days. We still have to keep track of when she goes because she isn't regular like she used to be when in diapers. I would maybe talk to your doctor and see what he/she thinks you should start with maybe uping the fiber and see how that goes? Your doctor could also give you an idea of how much miralax to give your son too if you choose to go that way, it took us a while to get the dose right for our daughter since she was holding it in so much it hurt her coming out and was big so she did everything she could not to go.
Good luck and I hope he gets regular soon.

My boys did this also last fall when PT'ing. I had fleet suppositories and chewables. I liked the chewables better and only used the suppository twice because it was like 5 days with no poop. It took them a few months to get over being poop shy but then they would just wait until nap or bedtime and go which was fine as long as they went. They still wear pull-ups overnight and have accidents, poop or pee about once a week. My one son cannot hold his pee he says it comes out when he sleeps which happened twice this week which is rare. It takes awhile just keep track and try the chewables.

We had this issue with our DS as well. He peed just fine, but would not poop. We finally just stopped talking about it b/c suddenly we noticed he would stop himself from pooping in his pull-up even and we felt like we were spending too much time talking about poop. If he pooped in his pull-up, we'd change it and always mention that if he wanted to try to poop on the potty, just to let us know. For some reason, he just did not want to go poop on the potty. He didn't like that his feet couldn't touch and when he did try, he always said he didn't know how to make it come out.

Then one day he said he had to go poopy - so we said, let's try the toilet. My DH went in there with him - and I'm not joking - he spent 20 minutes in there with him talking him through each push - but we went on the potty and he was SO proud of himself, and he's been going on the potty ever since. He just really needed time and apparently a poop pep talk during the process! :)

    Good luck!
