Up until the last week...both my guys would eagerly take their bottles in the morning when they wake up aand all day long...probably about a 6oz or more bottle. In the last week, Ryan seems very disinterested in his bottle in the am and will hardly even take a 4oz bottle. Actually, all day it was a struggle to get him to take his bottles...he just seems to not be interested and not hungry. It's not like he's sick. He's still happy & smiley and no temp. Tonight his brother took almost 11oz before bedtime and it was a struggle to get Ryan to eat...it was like he would much rather suck on his hand. Of course then when I put him down to bed it was like....he realized he hadn't eaten anything and started howling for his food and finally ate.
Is this normal? It seems strange to me...plus it's really annoying and wearing me out!

i am curious to see what others have to say here! My two were the EXACT same way for a couple of weeks!! Kaylin seemed disinterested in her bottle until after i put her in bed, and Keigin ate like a monster!!i kind of chalked it up to a growth spurt!!

One of my girls went through that about a month ago, she was just so distracted she didnt want to eat, boob or bottle! She would eat just fine at night while she was sleeping though, it didnt last too long, a week maybe.

Hope it passes soon! Good luck!!

Mine, more noticeably Lucas, went through that phase around the 4-4.5 month mark. It was like they were too distracted by other things to eat. It lasted about 3 weeks in our house and then they went back to eating normally again (we were down to 3 maybe 4 oz per feeding and that was pushing it). Neither one seemed to lose any weight or be affected by it any way other than stressing me out.

    Hope this passes quickly.

I'm at my wits end too!! My DD just will not eat anymore! I'm so worried.

She is eating less than normal and it's getting harder and harder to get her to take more ounces. Our first bottle of the day is the easiest...of course, she's famished from STTN. She will take 7oz without much struggle. Every bottle after that she eats 1oz and wants nothing more to do with her bottle. I have to distract her 100 different ways to get her to take more....it's really getting to me. These days, i'm lucky if we get to 20oz for the day....but that's after HUGE struggles. I just don't know what to do anymore. My DS eats 6-8 ounces more than her a day! Should I call my Ped?

I'm really praying it's just a phase...I keep looking for teething signs...but I don't see any. I hope things change soon!

Cody went through that too. We gave him a faster nipple & that makes what does go in him go faster. In turn he gets finished before he is too distracted.

hmmm...never thought of the faster nipple! I had the opposite problem last night with my other guy! He took 11oz before bed at 6:30 pm, 4 oz more at 11pm, 4 more at 5am and then 5 at 8am....UGH. I'm tired. Meanwhile, Ryan has probably had less then half what is brother has had...hopefully today will be better....so far not though <_<

Mine are the same way too. It started right at the 4 month mark for them. With Noah he literally got "tired" of the bottle and it seemed he really wanted solids and the bottle with formula secondary to him. In the morning he will take a sip of formula (not even an ounce) and then he's done for about two hours. Literally at the two hour mark he's starving and will tongue out the bottle nad I have to give him solids (normally apples then 2 oz of formula). Then he'll nibble throughout the day and I don't even know how much to give him he varies from day to day.

Jonah is the same way minus the solids. He wakes up takes a token sip of formula and will ignore the bottle for at least two hours. From then on he'll nibble on it all day nothing regular. The only time he eats with feeling is the bottle right before bedtime other then that he'll ignore it or nibble at it nothing like before.

Faster nipples helped us a lot. Try to limit distractions too. They seem to be so interested in everything else they don't want the bottle. I try to hold them in a good cuddle and make eye contact. When I get tired of following a mouth with the bottle I will hold the bottle in one place and it's up to the baby to bring his head back to the nipple after looking around. If he's hungry this works. Another thing that works is to put the wiggly baby in the boppy pillow. He seems to wiggle less.
If all else fails I'll put the baby down and go back in a few minutes. That usually does the trick.

In my experience it is normal, mine go through periods when they won't eat as well. The first time Lily went through this I was very worried and brought her to the pedi. She was fine, I was worrying over nothing. There are still lots of times when one of both of mine just aren't hungry. I have found that if I try to feed them and they aren't hungry, if I stop trying to make them eat and wait until they start acting hungry then eventually they will want to eat. I think it's because I had been keeping them on a schedule of eating every 3 hours and when they got to be 3 - 4 months old their personalities were starting to emerge a little so if they do not want to eat they aren't going to eat just because you put a bottle in their mouths, they only want to eat when they are hungry.

To this day, the first bottle of the day (and sometimes all the way until noon) are poor feedings. You'd think that after going 12 hours with only 1 bottle they would be starving, but they aren't. :unknw:

My DS is going thru that but he is a bit older and i think its because he has a newfound mobility and would rather play than eat.. GL

these two little girls were doing JUST that.. its only now this week that they're going back to it not being a total struggle to get them to eat more than an ounce! that craziness lasted about two weeks for us. it so happens that we had our doctors appointment towards the end of that. the ped told me to not worry and that it happens from time to time... more then likely their gums hurt. as long as they seem happy and they keep gaining weight at a normal rate, that it would pass and they'd be fine.

its veryyyyyy VERY frustrating and heartbreaking when they dont eat though. my brain knows they'll be fine and wont starve to death.. but the crazy mom inside starts to really freak out. best of luck!
