So these babies just turned 9 months a couple of days ago & i can't for the life of me get them to hold there own bottles! I mean most of the time I've been double fisting feeding them at the same time........but now that's getting old & they seem to have no interest in holding it themselves. I've tried placing their hands in the right position but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any suggestion? Thanks ladies I don't know what I'd do with out you! :)

Sorry, no suggestions...I'm in the same boat. It would make life so much easier if they could do it themselves so I'm interested to see the suggestions :)

Same thing happened for me with DS. He would hold his own bottle for DH, my mom, at daycare but never when I fed him so I know it's my fault somehow as well. I guess I'm an enabler, lol!

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions either. Mine are 15 months and we still give them bottles with regular milk. They can't hold it on their own either and I think it has to do with when they were newborns and the struggles I had and the fights I had with them to get them to eat from one.

I am hopeful that we'll just transition completely out of bottles and into their sippy cups soon!

Don't give up hope - our boys turned 10 months yesterday, and we just finally got them to start holding their own bottles in the last week. We still have to help them keep it tipped up a bit, but they are getting better. I hope within the next week or two, we can just hand them the bottle and let them drink it without our help. It just takes time - keep trying every few days. When ours finally started holding it, they were REALLY hungry one time, and we just had the bottle there not tipped up - they really wanted it, so they grabbed it finally and started holding it. We had to help them get their hands right, but they have progressed from there.

Ours don't either. No interest. Although, i do still like feeding them and maybe that is the problem.

One of my girls did it at 9.5months, my other monkey just started and they are almost 1.

it took mine until 9 mos or so to hold theirs so don't give up!

Mine never held their own bottles. I never propped bottles, so there was no motivation for them to do it themselves when they knew they could get some one-on-one time with Mom and get fed too. :) I tried many times, but they just didn't care to do it by themselves. They did however take to the sippy cups with straws really quickly and towards the end of the first year, I started putting their formula and water in the sippies. For whatever reason, they were happy to hold those. Go figure.

Keep trying, they will! Some kids just easily do it, some need more time. Don't give up! One of my boys just started to hold his bottle...

Just keep encouraging them to try. My Pedi was firm and said she didnt want me to let them figure it out since it would make it seem like "its theirs" and it would be hard to break come time to break bottles. However by 7 or 8 months they just started doing it all the time. I would try in the car. Seriously mine did that one day. It was feeding time, we were still 20 -30 min from home so I just mixed it up and set it back in their lap and the next thing I knew, they were doing it on there own.

I disagreed with my Pedi because they held their own bottles for 4 months at least then 4 days after their 1st birthday we ditched the bottle and it went GREAT :)

Some just don't. Sarah started holding hers around 9 months but only if I laid her down flat on the floor (which I know you're not supposed to do, but I never walked away while she was drinking). When she was done, she'd just chuck it off to the side. Amy never did hold her own, but at least it was easier to feed them at the same time. (Until then, with very rare exceptions, I always fed them sequentially and held them.)
