I"m 18 /1 weeks and so far I have only gained about 4 pounds... I was a bit on the heavier side but is it normal not to
    gain any weight?

In between 7 weeks and 10 weeks I put on 8 pounds. Then, I lost 1 pound at 14 weeks, and another 2 at 16 weeks. So, now I'm only up 5 pounds. I will find out tomorrow if I have gained or lost again. I feel like I gain so much every time I get ready for my appointment, and then am surprised when I lose.

Until 24 weeks I had only gained 8 pounds. My doctor said it wasn't a problem because the babies were growing fine and my stomach was still expanding. This past week I gained 3 pounds alone! I think when the babies start growing faster you'll gain more weight whether you eat the same or not.

I know that if your sick its normal to lose or not gain much at all in the first trimester.

I was fortunate and never got sick.. I gained 14 pounds by 20 weeks and then came to a stand still, Then lost weight, and now I am drinking boosts and have started gaining again. I have gained a total of 16 pounds.

I think everyones opinion on this differs.. but I feel its important for maternal weight gain when it comes to multiples so I would encourage you to try your hardest to gain some extra weight. I will probably come easier as you feel better (if you are sick)

Like the previous poster asked, have you been feeling sick? Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns or have they brought it up with you? I have heard that your pre-pregnancy weight does somewhat determine how much you will gain during pregnancy. But your best bet is to talk to your doctor and see what he/she thinks of this. :hug99:

I think that is is different for everybody. I did not start gaining weight until about 24 weeks. Thus far, I have gained about 25 lbs.

I had lost a total of 10 pounds at that point in my pregnancy. I am hoping this next appointment will show us having the first actual gains of the pregnancy.
Generally, or so my doctor says, if you have some extra cushioning before you got pregnant, the weight loss is nothing to be concerned about.

I'm with Mel on this one that with multiples, I think women need to gain with multiples. If your doc says the babies are continuing to grow, I wouldn't stress so much, but I certainly wouldn't try to lose or not gain weight.

I had trouble gaining due to morn sickness and a strict GD diet that I kicked when I had to go on bedrest due to cervical incompetency and TTTS. I had gained 10 lbs. by 20 weeks. My weight seemed to stall for quite a few weeks. At mid-pregnancy, I started the Ensure shakes and concentrating on protein and eating what I could. I've been able to put on 20 more pounds on bedrest and the shakes. Still I have to stuff my gut to keep nourishing those babies and to prevent weightloss.

I know it is different for everyone. I only gained 5lbs by 20 weeks and I voiced my concerns to every dr that would listen. They all said the same thing, don't worry the babies look fine and you will gain it sooner than you realize. Sure enough, I gained a total of 42lbs (all belly) by my 36th week!

I was the same way. I only gained about 2 lbs by 18 weeks. I was not hungry, felt sick. Once all that cleared up I started gaining more. I gained over 20 lbs now. Now I am on restricted activity because they want all the nutrients going to the babies due to Baby A's issues. BTW, I am also heavy. Don't think that you don't need to gain weight. You do really need to. Try your best to eat more. I heard that once you hit 30 weeks or so you wont want to eat much, so try your best now!

I ate and ate and ate and I only gained 19 pounds the whole pregnancy. The boys kept growing so my doctor wasn't concerned. Whenever I would gain a good amount, I would lose it the next week for some reason. My boys were born at 35 weeks weight 4lbs12oz.

I lost weight the ENTIRE PREGNANCY with very little morning sickness. I ate like a cow too......I would get up from a meal after having stuffed myself FULL, and take a snack into the next room to eat because I was hungry again (yep, 2 seconds later).

From my first pregnancy appointment to my day I got the staples out 5-6 days after delivery, I had LOST 27 pounds!!!

My babies were born at 36 weeks and were 5lbs 8oz and 6lbs 10oz (not small babies for 36 weekeers).

If the doctor is not worried, then I wouldn't worry either.

I voiced concerns regarding my lack of weight gain.......1 pound at almost 21 weeks........But he said he'd rather have me lighter than heavier.......and both babies are developing. I have a feeling I'm on the verge of "popping" and I'll probably start to gain more now.

I really didnt' start gaining until about 25 weeks. I am on the heavy side too. Right now I am 30+w and have gained 23.5 lbs. I was between 3-7 lbs up until about that 25 week mark.

    Hope that helps!
