Ok, yesterday afternoon ds was hanging out with my mom & sil and my sil called me to tell me that my son has lice, GREAT!!!! I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant and my ds is 20 mo. old, and I really don't need this extra work and stress right now. So my mom brings him home and sure enough it's lice. How did I not notice this as a mom (beating myself up over this) Anyhow, I started to think back a few weeks and noticed that he was itching his head a bit, but thought it was related to the heat and dry scalp. I did look at his scalp but all I saw was a few flakes ( i thought this was flakes but it was nits...yucky!) First time mom here..lol. So, asked my hubby to examine me and sure enough I have it too....LOVELY!!! I took ds into the dr today and she said I have it worse than my ds. So she says to go home and think about cutting ds's hair to speed up the process here (before the twins come) and that I should also think about cutting my hair as well.

So I go home and my mom comes over and it takes 3 hrs to treat my today....UGH!!! Sitting on a toilet as huge as beach whale with my back aching and my feet swelling. Really not something you want to go through at this point in your pregnancy, especially with twins!!!

Have any of you ladies gone through this with such a young toddler? I'm feeling all alone here and kinda worried that the lice will still be here when the babies come.

Thanks for letting me vent...I feel better now. My hormones are pumping..lol.

No experience here, but as a former teacher my students would get it. I always start to itch when I hear about it and sure enough I'm itchy now. I dread the day one of my kids brings this home from school. Be sure to wash ALL your bedding (meaning all in your house that you have used) in HOT water ASAP!!! If you don't do that you will not get rid of the lice. If he/you have been around any stuffed animals you also need to wash those too. If you don't treat the things lice can live on you will never get rid of them. Yuck! How do you think your DS got lice? Good luck. :hug99:

You poor thing! I have no experience with lice but my heart is really going out to you. I am SO sorry you're going through this right now, of all times. Hopefully people with some experience will respond. So sorry!!

Oh my gosh you poor girl!!! Lucky you have your mom to help pick those nits. that's the most important thing. Get rid of your brushes etc, anything you can't boil. Make sure you follow directions to retreat in 10 days or whatever it is. Don't try and do it all yourself or you could go into labor!!! Make sure you get help for all the laundry etc you will have to do. Wishing you all the best that it goes away ASAP!! (Did your mom and sil get checked?)

I feel for you- my niece gave it to me while I was pregnant with my son. We still don't know where it came from. You have to treat your self- comb out really good- like pp said, get rid of any combs, brushes etc that you can't boil- if you can, boil them. Wash the sheets in hot water- and put his stuffed animals into a trash bag and tie them up for about 7-10 days. I also bought that bedding spray that kills lice to spray my mattress down with. Just be very thorough on all items! Good like- be sure to get help with all of this!

Oh yeah, I forgot about putting stuffed animals in a bag like that, thanks for the reminder. They make spray that will kill lice on mattresses?

I got it from a student once. It is so awful. I really feel for you. I'm glad your mom can help you. My poor DH had to comb through my hair for nits forever. Others have given you good advice, so I can't really offer anything more. I hope you are able to get rid of it the first time around. Also, it feels gross, but it has absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness. Lice has such a stigma and there really isn't anything you can do about it.

Thanks ladies for all your kind words and support. It's much needed right now. I've been doing an all natural treatment on my hair for the past two days and it seems to be working. Dh just picked through my hair to get rid of some of those stubborn nits. UGH!!!!

I noticed some of you said to either get rid of the old brushes or boil them, but I read on the internet that you can soak them in hot water with soap. That's what I've been doing plus I add tea tree oil soap to it as well......I hope this is enough to sterilize the brushes. I just don't have time to boil them. What do you ladies think??

I remember when I cleaned my bathroom shelves out a few months after having lice I found a brush that had a little scattering of dead adult lice around it. They must have hatched then died. It was so gross!! I would definately make time to boil them. I would also be wary of all natural treatments, I know you don't want to use the chemiocals, but talk to your doc or pharmacist. Good luck!

One way to get them out of hair is to put conditioner in your hair and then brush with a fine tooth comb. x
