Not feeding enough Solids?

I see many people posting that their 7-8 month olds are already feeding 3 solid meals a day. Am I behind? My girls only get Cereal and Fruit in the AM (and we are still on Stage 1 jars and they split one jar), and then they get a Veggie at night (which they don't really care for - one more than the other). Should I be instituting a lunch too? How much should they be eating? Stage 1 a whole jar each in the AM or is 1/2 ok? Then at lunch and night...do you also offer more than just one thing? I just bought some stage 1 meats to try and then thought about moving over to Stage 2.

As I was saying...one seems more interested in eating than the other...I know I shouldn't be comparing, but you know how that goes...

    THANKS for any advice!!

With the twins I started one meal a day at 6 months and didn't add another meal until about 8 months. With Evan I waited until 7 months to start solids and didn't add another meal until about 9 months. Right now their main source of nutrition is either breastmilk or formula. Solids are just practice!! No hurry! With the cereal, I would do half spoon cereal and half either veggie/fruit. Or else I would do just the veggie. There is no big hurry for solids. It is just practice and getting them used to different textures and tastes! Of course one is better at them then the other. :) They are two individuals, but it is difficult not to compare! Just take your time and don't stress yourself over it!

Thanks! That makes complete sense! :)

They are still drinking 5 - 7oz bottles a day too.

  4. Hmmm...every baby is different. All of my kids have LOVED baby food. It took one of my boys a while to decide he liked them..but now he eats like a pig. At 7 months we were doing only two 'meals' a day of solids...morning they would get two tablespoons of oatmeal cereal with a stage one fruit and formula mixed in. They would each eat that amount. I can't imagine splitting a tiny stage one at that point. But then again...mine loved food and are only in the 1st percentile for weight even now at 14 months...so I let them eat until content as they need the calories and were taking plenty of formula/milk as well.

For dinner they would each eat a stage two fruit and stage two veggie. I never did the meats...honesty they just gross me out! ha! But now they'll eat tiny cut up pieces of real meat.

Sounds like your girls are healthy and growing. Honestly I'd let them eat what they want. Stop when they stop wanting it. As long as they are taking in enough formula then give them as much solids as they would like. They are good at stopping when full.

Girls are for sure healthy and growing. 16.5 & 17lbs at 7months!! Bigger than my oldest daughter was at that stage. :-D

sounds like they are doing perfectly. I didn't even start solids until the week before they were 8 months! (Me being lazy mainly...) anyway, keep up the good work!

  7. See Gina...even with the large amounts my boys were eating my little peanut was only 17 lbs at his one year well-check.
