It seems to me that at 10 months old, we shouldnt still be drinking 4/5 8oz bottles in a day? I feed them solids at breakfast and dinner, and most lunches. Should I try adding a snack? Do you think they are drinking out of habit rather than actually needing the formula? My house is so crazy...maybe I need to be better at getting solids into them.

    Rhea,

I am doing 4 bottles, 3 meals, and 2 snacks with milk in sippies, right now. I feel like they eat ALLLLL day long! Emma's bottles are 8oz and Jake's are 7oz, but he drinks more from a sippy than she does. If they seem hungry in between, I would add a snack or two. [IMG]

    Hey Rhea,

I was just reading through the 10 month scheds at the top, looks like most were still on 4 bottles a day, but maybe not full bottles, so most I think, were working towards dropping one of them, and replacing with solids or a snack. Do they drink out of a sippy well?

We are doing four or five 6oz bottles a day but they rarely finish them (always an ounce or two left). For solids we do 3 meals a day. Waffle or pancake cut up and yogurt for breakfast. Cheerios, fruit and veggie for lunch. Stage three dinner with some veggie for them to eat on their own (green beans, peas, carrots...etc.) I always give them something to eat on their own cause it keeps them occupied and I figure it is going to be easier in the long run to transition completely to table food. They LOVE LOVE LOVE spaghetti, I do it for them every Sunday and last night we went out and they shared a slice of cheese pizza!!!

My girls have always been extremely hard to feed. They both have 3-4 4-6 ounce bottles a day, one jar of baby food each for breakfast, lunch and dinner, sippys of juice and milk in between and slices of cheese and gold fish for snacks. They have slowed on weight gain, but I do what I can to make sure they eat. They have always been hard though, Matty has on occasion only taken one bottle a day and that scares me because of dehydration, but I can't FORCE feed her. I say you are doing a great job, but if you want you could drop a bottle and see if they pick up more food? Just an idea.

No Becky, they don't drink out of sippys very good at all. Gabe really trys but just makes a big mess...nate is not interested in them at all.

Thanks for your help...I guess I need to feed these kids more! I know they aren't hungry...they are growing like weeds [IMG][IMG]

Have you tried a straw sippy? My girls were taking 5 bottles and I really wanted to cut it down but they weren't doing so great with the sippies. Once we realized they knew how to use the straw, we switched to the Nuby short straw sippies (the one with handles) and now they take anywhere from 1-4 ounces of formula with each meal (from the sippy, cold). We were able to get down to 4, and now quite often 3 bottles a day that way (5-8 ounces per bottle).

Also, I've found that my girls' appetite has just naturally increased the more regularly you feed them solids. I do give them an afternoon snack as well.
